Cooling Off
Think about it: a team plays 162 games and makes the postseason after a grueling season and then only plays three playoff games because they get swept. Silly.

The new wild-card. One freakin' game. Silly.

I would shorten the season somewhat, keep the extra wildcard, play 7 game series and play them with as few rest days as possible to force teams to use at least 4 pitchers or pitch on short rest. The only thing that I would consider an issue with this year's is the lower seed hosting the first two games in the division round, which is, in fact, silly.

The wild card game is awesome. Every other series should be 7 games though

The wild card game is stupid. Atlanta will finish about 5 games better than STL, but might not even get to the NLDS because of the dumbazz way it's set up. One game? It took 162 games to get to that point. Let them play a series.

Bud Selig is the worst.

How about a three game series for the WC winners, with a doubleheader the first day and game three the next. Team with better record gets home field. Sorry team B might not get a home playoff game, but they should be glad to be in the playoffs at all. This way, the series is over in two days and the division winners have less of a layover. Although a doubleheader is dangerous because of possible weather delays.

Baseball is horribly lopsided with how long the regular season is as it stands. Even going from 162 games to a 5 game series is too lopsided.

I agree. It should be a 7-game series the whole way through IMO. I just hated that in 2010 the Reds had their first playoff team since '95, and we got to enjoy it for three games.

Like the 5/7/7 format, but not the extra wildcard and the silly one game WC playoff. It will do one thing especially impactful, though. It probably forces the WC teams to use their top starter for that one game, which means they may only pitch once in the five game divisional series. That penalizes the WC team, which a lot of baseball people are okay with, because under the old format the WC had no real major disadvantage in the first round against a division winner. Now they do. We've seen a lot of wildcards do very well over the past decade. Probably not a trend that will continue with the new format.
