Division VI State Semifinal: Northmor (14-0) vs. Kirtland (14-0)

Jesus Christ it's football. You can slow motion every play and pick it apart and find something. Now do the same thing for Northmor. Did they play a penalty free game ? I highly doubt it. It's only an issue with the people crying sour grapes. Because the Knights got slaughtered - now it's an issue. Northmor thought they were physical according to the6ir coach - they found out what physical is. The game got chippy towards the end because the Knights never imagined they would be running clocked. The Knights now know what it takes to advance - and how much they need to improve. They should have been beaten by more technically.

Your line got blown up, probably every play. Just because you found a play that shows a call that could have gone either way, even after watching the replay, doesn't prove as much as the manhandling I saw across the board. The entire O-line pushes forward 3 yards as soon as the ball is snapped. No amount of whining about some missed holding penalties changes that. That field looks like it's tilted 30 degrees downhill for Kirtland.

Proves nothing. The only thing it proves is Northmor was grossly overmatched.
Or that Kirtland gets away with a lot with the style of play and their reputation and no one has the guts to question them on it.

Your supposed holding or block in the back on that Example 1 play doesn't even begin to explain your entire line being pushed back 3 yards in the first couple seconds of the play, unless you think an O-line pushing a D-line straight backwards is holding, which maybe would explain why you think so many holding calls were missed, lol.

Facts!! Look Kirtland is good, but the fact that they are able to not get called for holding on clear holds is ridiculous.

Kirtland ran at least 65+ rushing plays tonight with 1 holding call that lead to a net 5 yard gain and a replay of 1st down.

Do you understand the kind of statically anomaly that is for highschool football, let alone other levels of football. If that style of play is not called for holding no wonder they run that offense and have been so dominate for so long.

Good luck against Coldwater I am sure if they do not get called for holding they will win another state championship.
How many kids does Northmor have in the 900lb club and up? That there is your answer as to how they were able to rack up over 400 yards rushing with no holding calls.

Bad game plan and coaching. Facing the Kirtland O Line with a 4 man front is comical.

Geez, I am SO sorry that I missed this thread last week.

Congrats to Northmor for a great season & making the final 4, but there must be some tremendous wacky weed growing in the fields around Morrow for some of the folks to post what they did on here.

As for the "Kirtland holds" argument I have 2 thoughts:
1) holding is typically called when a blocker is beat and grabs/pulls the defender down. It is not called when the blocker drives the defender off his spot and maintains contact through the block.
2) Even if Kirtland held on every play, how does that explain them boat racing you on defense?

At this point I'd take your lumps, celebrate your team and watch what should be an epic championship game.

So according to your definition, holding can not occur at the second and third levels. Which is not true. My argument was never that Kirtland was not better than Northmor that night. Because of what you said the defensive game plan was well executed. However, my argument is that Kirtland should not be looked at as some mythical power, but rather what they are a program that gets away with a style of offense that holds, grabs, turns and pushes evey definition of what holding is. As well as pushing the limit on after whistle nonsense to bully their way to wins. And they are allowed to get away with it based on their reputation alone. So until they get held to the same rule book as everyone else they are going to continue to win.

Dude get over it. This is tackle football. You are making Northmor look like a bunch of cry babies. You are the only person that has ever accused Kirtland of these tactics. The Northmor players were not complaining on the field - they took the beating way better then you are. A big reason why the players got pushed around was their weak defensive approach. There is nothing mythical about Kirtland - other then the fact that these kids have run that offense since grade school. They know it inside and out. My guess is your not used to seeing linemen driving players down the field and blocking to the whistle. Most teams don't give that kind of effort on every play for 4 quarters. Kirtland and the MAC schools play a physical brand of football that most are not accustomed to - I get it. Northmor found out Friday what top level football looks like. They are used to being the bully - well they found a bigger one.

1. I'm not sure the definition of a "mythical" power, but however you'd define it, I'd say Kirtland probably does belong on that list. Marion Local has only lost 8 games in 10 years, 2 of them were against Kirtland. The Hornets have 12 trips to the finals & 7 titles in the last 15 years.

2. Your post is the public chatroom version of a little league dad hollering that the opposing pitcher is "cheating" because your kid struck out 4 times and never touched the ball. This was a GREAT season for Northmor. No one thinks less of your team for losing to Kirtland. At least they didn't until you tried to explain away almost 20 years of dominance as 'the refs let them get away with it.'

PS - if you think Kirtland's level of intensity goes "too far" then I'd suggest you not watch any of the title games this weekend.

More than you think. lol. But thanks for the stupid answer
Having been familiar with Northmor football for over 30 years and also doing some consulting work with schools in the area as recent as this last summer, I have a pretty good handle on that. As a (now retired) coach who met with Kirtland in a couple of semifinals, I also have a pretty good idea of the level of their strength and conditioning program. In fact, I can guarantee you they will be getting a lift in the day after the state championship game because they always do. Sorry you’re feeling are hurt about it, but this was the season of a lifetime for Northmor with the most talented kids to ever go through the football program and they deserve all of the praise.

However, this is routine for Kirtland. They’ve been to the title game 12 of the last 13 years with 7 titles. I would feel very safe saying they have 10-15 kids in the 900lb club for bench/squat/clean.

Maybe you were thinking powerlifting’s version of bench/squat/deadlift? That would be more around a 1200lb equivalent. Either way… Kirtland’s strength and conditioning program is top notch.

The Kirtland weight program (Church of Iron) is legendary. The kids become obsessed at a young age and they are preached about the importance and necessity of weight training. People think all these kids do is pump iron - that is not true. Sure they lift to get stronger and faster. They also work on flexibility and agility. When I say everyone lifts - everyone lifts. The mentality is if your not doing your part you will be passed up by someone else. There are times to lift to get bigger - and times to maintain, recover and do injury prevention.

Like the poster above stated win or lose there will be roughly 60 kids getting work in Sunday AM. It will likely be stretching and yoga - but they will be there. Next season starts Sunday. No class or team wants to be the one that breaks tradition. Sure all teams lift - but it's how you lift. Kirtland lifts for a specific purpose. There is a dedication and a mindset that very few teams can rival. It's an easy sell at Kirtland because the kids have grown up seeing the results. The teams they play are usually left shaking their heads because of the physical play that permeates throughout the whole team. That is why if your blessed to reach Canton your usually are looking across at a team with a very similar mindset.

Again you obviously have not been to Northmor in the last 3 years or so. Thus your opinion is worthless!

Boy..... in the state championship game when Kirtland gets called for penalties they don't look nearly as good. Funny how that works.
Just take Northmor’s regional title and put in the trophy case and be grateful. Until your team makes it to semis or state finals like the Kirtland, Coldwaters, Liberty Centers, Irontons, and Marion Locals football programs of small schools, just stay at the kids table and let the adults eat in piece.
