Pretty much as I would have expected. Whereas last year Hoover and Perrysburg were pretty much even in fire power this year the difference was more noticeable, but still marginable. Hoover held the advantage with middle of the road placers, while Perrysburg had the advantage with the cream of the crop. With Wadsworth continuing a period of decline and Nordonia and Mentor graduating some heavy hitters, I would expect more of a separation between the two districts next season.

Looks fair to say NW Ohio produced the best in 2024!

There will be different draft outcomes in the NE if there is open placement again.

Perrysburg D1 had 2 full NE sectionals, a third sectional in the NE that had a few schools in the NW assigned to it, and a fourth sectional that was all-NW.
Qualifiers for Perrysburg D1 district by sectional:
Oregon Clay (all-NW) = 16 (10 Perrysburg)
St. Edward (all-NE) = 16 (13 St. Edward)
Avon Lake (mixed NE/NW) = 16 (10 NE, 6 NW - 3 Ashland, 3 Toledo St. John's)
Strongsville (all-NE) = 8

The NW district had 14 placers at the state tournament (11 came from the Oregon Clay sectional, 7 of which were Perrysburg kids; with 3 coming from teams at the Avon Lake sectional, 2 Toledo St. John's and 1 Ashland) -- from 22/56 qualifiers
Therefore NE district teams at the Perrysburg district tournament had 21 placers from 34 (out of 56) qualifiers.

In the 2023 season, Oregon Clay sectional produced 21 state qualifiers compared to the 16 of this year. There was the following change(s) in team composition year-over-year for the NE district sectional teams: teams from the NE were not pigeon-holed into the Avon Lake sectional site, teams were not pigeon-holed into a pot of teams for the St. Edward/Strongsville sectionals, teams that were in the NE geography could choose ANY of the seven sites this year.

10 graphs that show state team points, placers, finalists, and champs by district and sectional.

Here's one I find interesting. Only 4/16 sectionals produced less than the expected 7 state placers. Strongsville had 5.
Centerville, Marysville, and Upper Arlington all COMBINED for 5.

The other sectionals were all fairly even aside from St. Edward and Clay which were bolstered by Eds and Perrysburg.

Not to mention 10 of the 19 are seniors.
Central is just down right now, they do not have the multi-year generational wrestling yet that you see up north. I also think you have seen a good amount of talent from the central move to the D2 and D3 schools, as you are seeing several of those schools much more competitive the past few years. So instead of some of the top wrestlers feeling like they need to go to Coffman or Liberty then can now go to schools like DeSales, Watterson, etc..

D2 is a bit more balanced than D1. Norwalk comes out on top in all categories though.

I think the average state placement of each district's state qualifiers is a pretty good indicator of district strength. Expected is 8.5.
