Well, 21 February 2025 will go down as a great night in Ohio HS track & field! Big marks out of 3 meets. Here are the highlights:
NEOITC All-Star @ Spire (300m flat)
1600m (boys) - 4:08.94 win by Maxwell Friedrich (Clev. St. Ignatius, Sr.) - this moves him to #10 on the all-time combined Ohio 1600m/Mile list, just ahead of all-time great John Zishka's (Lancaster) converted 1600m mark of 4:08.9+ (4:15.0 MT mile original mark) of 1980 set on the old 10 laps/mile flat oval of the old Rike Center at Otterbein. Four boys went sub-4:20 @ Spire.
4x400m (boys) - 3:20.50 win by Clev. Glenville, a new yearly leader and likely a top-15 all-time combined 1600m/mile relay.
Shot Put/Weight Throw (girls) - Another double win by Rileigh Scarvelli (Avon Lake, Fr.) with 40' 1" / 48' 10" efforts, respectively.
Mount Saint Joseph @ Centennial FH, Cincinnati (200m flat)
Pole Vault (girls) - 12' 9" win by Claire Iaciofano (Cin. Turpin, Jr.), a new Cincy-area record that moves her up to a 5-way tie for #10 Ohio all-time.
Pole Vault (boys) - 16' 0" win by Luke Schnieber (Cin. Country Day, So.), moving him into a tie for #22 Ohio all-time, and ties him with Dalton Shepler's (Butler) Ohio sophomore record from 2018!
Ashland Univ. HS Hi-Performance @ Niss Center (300m flat)
60m (boys) - CORRECTION!!! - 6.80 WIN by Coy Hyre (Brookville, Sr.) over the 6.82 Jamier Averette-Brown (HH Wayne, So.). Apox on me for trusting the compilation into MileSplit of the results from FinishTiming's information. Sorry about that!
200m (boys) - 21.41 win by Averette-Brown over Coy Hyre (21.74)
High Jump (boys) - 7 feet - Elijah Harris (Westerville Central, Sr.) - Harris' 2 inch improvement in his PB moves him into a 5-way tie for #3 all-time in becoming Ohio's first 7-footer since 2009. The last boy over 7 feet was Ohio record-holder and 2012 Olympic Champion Erik Kynard, Jr. (Tol. Rogers) way back in 2009!
Long Jump (boys) - 23' 3 1/4" - Bryan Ingram (Canton McKinley, Sr.) - joins the 23-foot club with his PB, moving him #31 Ohio all-time.
Shot Put / Weight Throw (boys) - Brandt Morlock (Creston Norwayne, Sr.) set new PBs with his 62' 11 3/4" shot and 77' 1" weight wins, respectively. In the shot put, he moves to #15 all-time. In the weight, he moves all the way to #6 all-time with his huge 3-1/2 foot PB. Morlock also moves ahead of his brother Dillon for owner of the family weight throw record
800m (girls) - 2:12.22 win by Brooke Chapman (Olentagy Orange, Jr.) moves her to #18 on the all-time combined 800m/880yd list.
Long Jump (girls) - 18' 2" PB win for sophomore Claire Downer (Day. Chaminade Julienne).
Shot Put (girls) - 44' 6" win by Kamille Smith (Pickerington Central, Sr.), turning back the 44' 1 1/2" PB by Temidayo Owoyemi (Col. Horizon Science Acad., Sr.) and the 40' 1" PB by Haley Bittinger (Creston Norwayne, Jr.). Owoyemi moves to #29 all-time.
Weight Throw (girls) - Great weight throwing by the ladies with 5 girls over 47 feet. The win goes to Aubree Beery (Lancaster, Sr.) with her 52' 8 3/4" win, just off her 52' 10" list leader of last weekend. Haley Bittinger moves to #30 all-time with her big 50' 4 3/4" PB for 2nd place.
