Cleveland Indians 2016

OK Tribe,do nothing and you'll end with nothing, cheap and weak ownership will never change.

Opening Day tickets went on sale today. None were available 30 seconds later. Yet $59 tickets are now available for $200 on StubHub. Game is "sold out." 1,200 tickets available on StubHub.

Let's those scalpers recover some of the money that those scalpers will lose selling their season tickets from bad games at half price because the Dolans won't put a whole team on the field! BAM!!

82-80, wasting great pitching because they are too cheap/stupid/bad at developing and drafting position players. Maybe they are turning the corner in that regard with Lindor, and the two promising outfielders in the system come up sometime this year?

The Indians have been doing a very good job of drafting and developing position players since about 2010-11. The problem is that the Tribe did a horrible job drafting and developing talent between 2001 and 2009. For that, we can thank Mark Shapiro and his obsession with sabermetrics to the point that he forgot that speed, power and defense are just as important as OPS. Fortunately, Shapiro is now Toronto's problem.:banana::banana:

The Tribe's farm system is loaded with impact bats. But most of those guys won't be ready until 2017.

However, don't be surprised if Tyler Naquin wins the centerfield job. He's a speed-and-contact guy, a la Brett Butler.

Some consider them to have the best pitching staff. Def Amer League. Prime time for the Dolans to demonstrate some commitment and vision and go in the red for a while to break the cycle of mediocrity.

I'm not holding my breath. No wonder Shapiro left for a lateral move. I hate what the Dolans did to my baseball team. I hate them.

He's a 38 year old outfielder, brian. It's a minor league contract.
Byrd is a righthanded batter who hits lefty pitching well. I believe he hit 23 home runs last year, which would have led the Indians. Byrd is a high-character guy, he doesn't embarrass himself in the outfield, and he's signed to a club-friendly minor league contract. He's an upgrade over the Tribe's other healthy corner outfielders, and he's insurance in right field in case platoon partner Lonnie Chisenhall doesn't hit (Chizz has been mired in a slump all spring).

This is a great signing. If Byrd doesn't work out, at least he'll cost the Tribe next to nothing. If he helps (the more likely scenario), he'll do it for a paltry sum. Better still, Byrd won't drag down the payroll or clog the roster when phenoms Bradley Zimmer and Clint Frazier are ready to contribute at the major league level (probably sometime in 2017).

The Indians have had a great winter in the marketplace. They got themselves four quality, professional righthanded batters, all of whom bring some home run power and track records of producing in the clutch. All are highly-regarded character guys and all are at least adequate defensively. The Tribe's batting order is no longer lefty-centric; it is now as well-balanced as any lineup in the American League.

And these guys are all signed on cheap, short-term contracts. They'll never be drags on the payroll, like Swisher and Bourne. They'll all be gone when the Tribe's best young farm talent is ready to move up to the big leagues.:banana::banana:

I have a hard time getting excited at the prospect of another "great value". You do make me feel a little more positive about the whole situation. And as you say, at least he can't leave the Dolan budget hamstrung like the Swisher and Bourne bust-outs did. Value :)
