Cleveland Browns 2024 Edition

You should be glad they are. Many experts say that those two plus Emerson gives the Browns the best trio of CBs in the league. Other than Ward's health issues, what is your beef with them?
I think they are good … but if you look at most of the big plays the Browns gave up this … CB missed tackles has to be the number1 reason … I get Ward & Newsome … they are small … but Emerson is flat out terrible against any non WR … looks like he doesn’t even want to try to tackle RBs & TEs … sissy Is the nice way of saying it.

I love all of the Brown's haters here after a PLAYOFF loss. I get it, it wasn't the showing we wanted. But don't forget that the Browns are less than 10 years removed from being 0-16, were in last place in the division last year, lost a ton of starters, had Joe Woods as coordinator last year, etc etc etc... Enjoy this season for what it was, a step forward in the face of great adversity.

Next year with a healthy Watson is no holds barred.

wait for it... wait for it...

He's why the haters (and some fans) are down. The reaction to Flacco, a guy who used to own us, spoke volumes.

But with Watson, there's a very steep hill to climb to make this guy liked in Cleveland. The contract, the draft capital, the personal problems, the fact he's barely played, the mugging it up with his former Houston teammates, etc. The 2018-present resurgent Browns era is all down to him because this gang won't be together forever.

When I read this sentence, my first thought was “what in the heck is jackson03 talking about?” Yes this season was the best time for a Browns fan since the Bernie/Dog Pound years. Yes, the Browns had a great moment in 2020 upsetting the Steelers in the first round of the playoffs. I don’t think of these two events as being a ‘resurgent’ but more of an abnormality. Still, I looked at the records of both teams since 2018:

Cleveland 2018-current
* 50-48-1, 51.01%, 1-2 playoffs
* Divisional finishes: 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 2nd

Pittsburgh 2018-current
* 57-40-2, 58.57%, 0-3 playoffs
* Divisional finishes: 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd

Maybe since 2018 this is a resurgence for the Browns, they were coming off a 1-31 stretch and 20+ years of extremely tough times. The future…..love him or hate him it is Deshaun Watson for the next 3 years.

As a Steeler fan, 2018 to now has been a time of mediocre with a swan song & changing of the guard at QB - if you do not have a top 10ish type qb, you are closer to the 32nd best team in the NFL than you are the best team in the NFL. This is one thing both franchises have in common - neither appears to have a Super Bowl type QB at the helm. Going forward, history tells me the Steelers organization will figure it out.

If you're in the gutter completely, being guaranteed around .500 each year with a pair of 11 win seasons definitely qualifies as a resurgence. It may not matter so much to the absolute elite, but it's better than most teams in the NFL. And Watson, unfortunately, is the lynchpin in the whole situation far more than an abysmal Kenny Pickett because he can be replaced.

You are spot on. Watson’s contract hitches the Browns wagon to him for the next 3 years, straps them financially in dealing with free agents and the loss of the three 1st rd draft picks will hurt during & beyond these next three seasons. Pickett is not a financial determinant, all the Steelers would be out is the 1st rd pick (20th overall) they used on him.

Still, it was a great 2023 season for the Browns & their fans.

Does Marquise Brown make sense for Cleveland?

How about bringing back Jacoby?

Stefanski might be willing to give up playcalling to the new OC.

Now that he’s shaking up the offensive staff — and looking for fresh ideas with Deshaun Watson taking the reins again after shoulder surgery — he might have to relinquish the chore to attract the best and most innovative offensive coordinator he can find.

But if he hopes to land one of the rising stars in the game such as Rams quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Zac Robinson, 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak, or Raiders passing game coordinator Scott Turner, he might have to lure them with the all-important offensive carrot.

Hopefully, any interview with a prospective OC includes Deshawn. If you bring in someone who can’t work with your franchise QB, what’s the point?

2007: Browns 10-6
The Browns are back! Look out next year!
The Browns proceed to stink up the joint that year and years after.

2020: Browns 11-5. Playoff win in Pittsburgh, go toe to toe with the Chiefs in Arrowhead.
Browns are rolling! Set for years!
Browns proceed to stink it up for the next 2 years.

This season was fun but its not really a step anywhere. It's a missed opportunity. Future opportunity rests on a QB who has shown little to inspire confidence and key pieces another year older and some coming off major injury.

The window that seemed wide open 3 years ago is quickly slamming shut.

Stroud looked sharp, didn't he?

Place a hold on his HOF jacket for now.
Rookie QB in his first road playoff game against the best defense in football, with 2 of his top 3 WR (Dell and Brown) out. But sure, pile on if it makes you feel good. He had a great year and is clearly a top 10 NFL QB already.

Prediction of six Browns who will not be on the opening day roster, according to SBNation:

Flacco, Conklin, Bryant, Goodwin, Newsome, Hunt.

I would bring back Goodwin. The rest are either not going to be here due to interest from other teams (Flacco, Bryant, Hunt), or salary doesn't match ability anymore (Conklin, Newsome).

The wife had the best take on Mayfield Sunday, when he runs he looks like penguin with those short legs. Can throw a nice deep ball if he has a clean pocket, too bad the Raiders '70s offense isn't a thing anymore.
