Cincinnati Job Openings

Way too much misinformation being shared on here.

Way too much conversation about Seton too. They haven’t done anything to deserve the attention except complain about a decent coach. Looking at their stats, coaching wasn’t their only problem last year.

If Caldwell was offered the job, he probably wasn’t the first one they offered it to.

Slightly surprised that Turpin is open. Not sure who they think they can get that is an improvement over what they had. Not a lot of talent at Turpin, and when they did have some talent Giglio did well.

Prove that a lot of misinformation here. We all know Seton not very good at Basketball but the Job is Open.

Hearing Caldwell is balking at Seton now. Next in line is the assistant at Mercy McAuley. Expect to hear something this evening on it.

Why is he balking? Also, shocked to why they wouldn’t go with Morrison? He’s in the building, really good coach, works his tail off for the program and girls… but what do I know; those are just my general observations and the info I get from people. Gotta take it with a grain of salt…

Hearing Seton is wrapping up interviews today and tomorrow... Finalists/interviewees include Caldwell, Smith, Morrison, and Chadwell (ties to Brown County area, lives up north somewhere). Seton may try to have this decision completed before Easter break.
Timeline has taken a hit.

Seton does not exactly have a strong AD and she's going to be on her 4th basketball coach since she's been there in the last 8ish years. This probably has to be the "right" hire because she has handled the last several very poorly.

Caringbody seems to have some pretty tight intel from the inside. Maybe he knows what the hold up is and the delay in the hiring.

Any insight on Talawanda, Hamilton, Edgewood or Fenwick yet?
I wonder if Fenwick could get a decent hire given its location and facilities; are there girls in the program that would come back and play that had quit previously?

Edgewood graduated their two best players and not much is coming up; Talawanda's cupboard is bare. I wouldn't touch Hamilton with a ten and half foot pole.

New Member here. But, all these new posters coming on here and hammering a hiring process have a hard time understanding the current state of high school coaching. It's a shrinking demographic based on thankless parents and some administrations that don't back their coaches. I'm a former high school coach and still follow high school sports very closely. Turnover is unbelievable across all sports. In the end, it's a part-time job that doesn't pay well and these coaches put their heart and soul into doing the best they can for the kids. To most, it's never enough. Most are very good people.

A coach going from a Boys Varsity Head Coach role at a Public HS to a Girls Private school is almost guaranteed to involve a significant pay cut. Is it possible Caldwell is trying to figure out some logistics and maybe leverage this into a full-time job in the building?

Also, Seton sports as a whole has rapidly improved. I would credit some of it to the increased enrollment but I wouldn't say the AD is terrible. The basketball program has also improved despite the lack of a stable Head Coach.

Parents. Relax. If you think you can do these jobs. Step up and apply! If not, support your kids and their teammates and help make it a positive experience they look back on with good memories.

At what point does the AD not take the blame for the basketball program though? She has made these hires good, bad, or indefferent (almost all bad hires though). Think back to the days of Gleason and Gramke when she had a chance to hire Gramke and let him leave. Cant say she has been at her best when it comes to the basketball program. At least the dance team is solid though 😆
I would say at this point if caldwell hasnt taken the job then it would be best to move on before some of the other jobs start hiring and you lose the next person in line. If you apply for a job you should be ready to make the commitment to take it.

Hiring anyone isn’t an easy task but as quoting/paraphrasing Donutman 13 – they got some great basketball minds on the hiring committee but do these "great basketball minds" have interviewing experience in the real world? With having coaching & interviewing experience myself, the first thing I thought of is why on earth would a person in the public school system go to a private school where the pension/pay is significantly less unless they have ties back to the school/church or are fully vested. You would think they would completely vet that person until a conversation starts about coaching philosophy. If that is the case the offer was made then turned down, how would you feel being the 2nd choice? That’s all on the AD to manage the hiring process.

Prior to Mercy closing in 2018, Seton sports were near or at the bottom of the GGCL in all sports other than bowling (Lol – too many jokes to talk about westsiders & bowling!). With enrollment growth came athletes – I would say most, if not all of the credit goes to that

I continually find this intriguing how this basketball program is getting this much attention – curious how it ends now

Bingo. Hiring the best basketball coach and hiring the best candidate might not be the same person.

I have too many opinions to post about coach success. But, better find a coach that understands the culture, community, and leadership at Seton. It's a passionate group. One interview question might be how thick is your skin.

I'll try to keep it quick because I know no one wants to talk about Seton : ) ...There were good basketball minds on the committee. Not sure if they all had a vote or if they're there to just advise the AD on her decision. Hopefully the decision happens sooner rather than later.

@513HSfan Please understand that the parents did all they could to keep the girls spirits high and stay in the stands where we belong. The girls and staff were very unhappy with how things were run and we'll keep it at that.

Personally, Caldwell or Morrison would be my top 2 picks. My senses say that Caldwell was the first pick but that's hitting a snag for whatever reason. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the AD is wanting to give it to Morrison. Not sure if it's the need to not give it to a JV coach again (which wouldn't make sense if it went to Smith) , age, she's been advised not to... who knows. If she did want him to be the coach then it probably would've happened already (could be wrong) . I know Morrison well and I think he would do a great job at Seton or anywhere he goes. IMO, they shouldn't let him slip. But that's not my call. I'll sit here in the stands where I belong.

Smith - Mercy McAuley JV coach/Varsity Assistant
Chadwell - All I heard is there is a tie to the former Western Brown coach and is moving back from out of town. Don't know much after that.
So your saying Chadwell would leave WB and go to Seton while the old WB coach would come back to WB?

Just some opinion on Seton, not inside info. I asked some of my experts for their opinions.
The decision has probably been made and will be announced tomorrow. It should be Smith or Caldwell. Either are a good choice.

The program is loaded with talent both in the school now and coming in the next class or two and I'm not a parent.

I pick Smith. He has ample high school experience as a boys JV head coach and varsity assistant before doing both at Mercy McAuley. I'm told he was more like a co-head coach at MM. He is more likely to come and stay at Seton for the next 10 or 15 years even if the talent gets a little thin.

Rumor is Caldwell was liked by both players and parents at Mariemont. So why is he leaving?
This thread says it's because of lack of retuning talent. If that's the primary reason I don't like it.

If You think Seton is Loaded you feeling alright? Been drinking heavily? Lack of Talent at Seton and Mariemont Boys a Real possibility here?

The more I read this post, the more concerned I am for the next coach and dealing with realistic expectations. This "loaded" group had 1 win against a team with a winning record last year. That team was Mt. Healthy. Not exactly a "good" win.
Their non-league wins were the bottom 3 teams in the ECC, 2 of the bottom 3 teams in the GMC, and the bottom team in the GCL Coed.
Their losses included multiple 20+ point losses and several losses to very average programs.
That's not just coaching folks. That's also a personnel gap.

Also, this comment above - "The girls and staff were very unhappy with how things were run and we'll keep it at that."
How in the world would a parent know that about staff turmoil among each other? Sounds like the staff had a mole venting to parents. With that said, a new coach has an uphill battle of figuring out who he/she has in their corner.

Mason has been posted on Indeed if that hasn't already been mentioned and I missed it.
Finally, someone stopped talking about Seton. So tired of people talking about Seton. They haven't done anything. I would rattle off their stats and lack of accomplishments from last year but that's already been done 10 times on this thread.

@papa300 It's like the end of Ghostbusters when Winston tells Ray, "Ray, if someone asks if you're a god, you say YES!". Same thing applies here. If someone asks you if Seton has talent, you say NO!! That will save you from getting electrocuted off the top of a building or worse, hear Seton's lack of accomplishments for the 11th time.

So Mason needs a new coach? I hear Caldwell and/or Smith might be available.

People complaining about "way too much conversation on Seton" but no one else has anything to bring to the posting board... nobody on here going to talk about how the Lakota West parents pushed Fishman out for garbage at the end of the season by running to the AD?

I have a feeling this is what's keeping Morrison from getting the job. If he would have gotten through the year without doing everything he could to put pressure on the head coach through parents he would probably have the job.
