CHANEY vs URSULINE

40th renewal of this rivalry with Irish on top, 27-11-1. Cowboys on a roll of late. Projections? Did I read that Ursuline QB Ericson was injured?

The Irish played a very sloppy game last night, and won. They won't be sloppy this week. Irish win 48-6

Ursuline wins big. However, Chaney has a number of coaches who played for Ursuline, and Ursuline gave Chaney its only reg. season loss last year. So Chaney will undoubtedly get up for this game. Couple that with Ursuline having Mooney on deck. Hopefully we get out early and rest starters for the second half so we can be 100% for Mooney.

It appears Ursuline has tightened up on Defense since last year, wasn't very impressed with their D last season. They look better (from a distance) this year, and appear to be operating at a high level both sides of the ball. I expect a running clock in the 2nd half, but who knows?

Go Cowboys!

The Ursuline offense should be able to wear down Chaney and hit some big chunk plays. Baylog is a nice compliment to the run game the past couple of games. I just can't see Chaney being able to keep up once Ursuline goes tempo.

Defensively, Ursuline has been getting better. #17 Rudzik has been a nice surprise along the Dline giving the Irish some much needed depth.

I'll take the Irish 41-13.

The weather looks okay for Friday night, thank our heavenly father. Last year was one of the (wackiest?) games I'd ever seen on GOTW.

It was 1965. With an offense led by QB Tom Ross, RB Dave Brungard and WR Dave Delsignore and a defense led by Mike DeNiro & Bruce Herdman, Chaney finished 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the City Series in 65. The last Chaney win over Ursuline prior to 1965 was in 1951 which was before I was born. The Cowboys and Irish tied in 1980 but Chaney has not beaten Ursuline since 1965.

The 65 Cowboys were the last City Series team to finish 7-0 in the league. Of course, it was only possible to be 7-0 in the CS from 1959-1967. Rayen did it in 1960, Mooney in 61 & 62 and then Chaney in 65.

I attended the 64 game with my father and as @Cinciirish noted above the stadium was packed. There were people sitting in the trees and on the rooftops of the houses along Ohio Ave. watching the game. Chaney totally dominated that game but the Irish won 6-0. You remember that game don't you @yipyap? I know you still remember the official's name that made the rather controversial call on that Irish pass that set-up the only score of the game. Was it a simultaneous catch? A lot of people thought Chaney DB Bill Bailey intercepted it but that was the ruling, Irish 1st down at about the Cowboy 7 or 8-yard line. Ursuline scored on 4th down early in the 4th quarter. IIRC the Irish score came after they took over at about the Cowboy 35 when Chaney muffed or fumbled a punt. I know that disputed pass completion came right after that fumble or that game may well have ended in a scoreless tie.

Ursuline finished the game with 2 first downs and only about 80-85 total yards and the only time they crossed their own 40-yard line was on that fumbled punt but they made their lone TD stand up with a great defensive stand at their 3-yard line with about 1:00 left in the game. They stopped Chaney inside their 5-yard line in the first half also. That game was Chaney's only loss on the season and the Irish repeated as CS champions in 64. It was about as exciting as a 6-0 game can be.

The 1955 Ursuline game actually finished in a scoreless tie but Chaney subsequently had to forfeit that game and a win over North.

No freshman game this week. Chaney doesn't have enough. That makes both Youngstown schools without enough kids. Mooney "may try to play one".
