'School safety is our No. 1 priority"
The Canton City school BOE unanimously approved the $370,920 purchase of 22 Open gate Concealed Weapons Detectors from Communications Technologies that will be installed at 5 middle schools and high schools.
"Weapons detection systems are in use throughout our community....at sporting events, hospitals and courthouses," Superintendent Jeff Talbert said.
The walk through detectors will be installed at multiple entrances at STEAMM Academy, Hartford, Early College @ Lehmen, Crenshaw, the Timken Career Campus and Canton McKinley HS.
The devises will detect guns, knives and other weapons such as brass knuckles.
Board member Kim Brown added that she is constantly worried about the safety of the city schools as violence continues to grow.
Hand held weapon detectors will be purchases for the.... ....ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.... ....on an as needed basis.
