Canton McKinley vs Warren Harding

There was a time not all that long ago when WGH vs. Canton McKinley would be the marque game across the state of Ohio.
Good point, there was also a time when a schedule consisting of McKinley, Buchtel, St. V, Ursuline, Boardman, Massillon and Fitch would be considered a real meat grinder of a schedule. It's still a challenging one but not like the old days.

What are Harding fans opinion on Steve Arnold?

This gets rehashed about a dozen times a year. People moved from the city to the burbs. It is what it is time to play ball.

Mannnn I'm only 31 I turn on 32 tomorrow but I remember them days such a great time.

They didn't move from the city to burbs they transferred from publics to privates with the Ohio legislature's help.

Plenty of city schools are doing great and the potential for Mckinley and WGH to be MUCH more competitive is still there. Not as consistently competitive as the private powers obviously, but is what it is.

I have not seen Warren play or practice so it's hard to pick a winner. McKinley looks like a top 10 team in the state. So i will pick the Pups.
Are you claiming that McKinley is a top 10 team in the state in division 1, or a top 10 team in the entire state without regards to divisions?

Given that there are only 72 D1 teams, being top 10 isn't quite the stroke it might be perceived to be.

All I've seen of McKinley is the Ignatius scrimmage. Because it was a scrimmage, one must temper expectations accordingly. But based on that performance, if McKinley is a top 10 D1, then D1 has really fallen off.

Actually WGH got a decent amount of transfers from a private school this year. But they are Warren kids.

Oh no, did you just say, “But they are Warren kids!?” LOL! That sounds like a fanbase from another old AAC football rival when they get transfers. 😉 By the way, it’s great to see the Warren-Canton rivalry has been renewed.

I don't have any idea who will win, but McKinley is not a top 10 team in the state in D1.

The Warren JFK coach left Warren JFK this off season, so some kids transferred over to WGH.

There should never be a year when we don't have a Harding-McKinley football game. Hopefully, it's here to stay.

While there's never a legit excuse to go 2-8, I fully understand why things are the way that they are. Or, at least not how it used to be. Thankfully, I think that as a whole, Warren is taking steps in the right direction towards progression. Everything starts from the top because when the city was whole, everything was better. There's a reason why the former industrial powerhouses in Ohio once ruled the football world.

As for this year, Harding may surprise with their depth. Week 1 won't be easy, but it's exactly the challenge that they need. It's been 20 years since Harding has beaten McKinley. Hopefully, the drought will end on Friday.

Dang, its like that Oil ? lol

Mck, eased up off the pedal. & What I seen on the field made it appeared like they were half manned, theyy were flat out getting bullied. I dont know if Mck that good or Iggy is dropping off
McK certainly passes the eye test but that had to be the least impressive looking Iggy team I’ve ever seen

It's going to take Franzinger time to turn the corner with the Ignatius program.

As far as this game, McKinley wins something like 31-17.

Ignatius dropped off years ago. You must have been one of the McKinley fans sitting near me acting like the Pups were playing in the D1 title game.

This Ignatius team will lose at least 4 games. McKinley is improved and has some players, but Ignatius is no longer any kind of litmus test.

It's going to take more than Franzinger. IMHO, there are a couple of factors at play:
- There are only so many kids in NEO that meet the Ignatius profile. Ignatius used to get the pick of the litter. No more; lots are now going to St. Ed.
- St. Ed has also lowered their standards to acquire more talent. To put a finer point on it, there are kids playing for St. Ed who wouldn't be admitted to Ignatius. Example: would Ignatius open the doors for a one-semester rent-a-player? Or put it this way: there are kids who are torn between Glenville and St. Ed. No one opts for Glenville over Ignatius -- because the ones who might think Glenville is better never had the Ignatius option to begin with.

It's a different world out there now. You're going to see a greater concentration of elite talent in fewer programs, and if you want to be one of those programs you're going to have to play by the new rules. As long as Ignatius keeps its standards, they'll never see the glory days again. Is that a worthy trade off? I wouldn't think so.
