California State Champion matchups

Best of luck to the Spartans. I think they are the class of California this year and will win handily.

Still seems a little screwball to me, but the parties involved seem to be ok, or at least publically.

For personal interests, I am a little mroe interested in the St. Bonaventure game.

I suspect you will see a contingent in orange at that game. I will be out of town and unable to see any of it until later on. PLease post any TV info you get.

CC 2007 is a better team than Canyon 2006

but DLS is also improved

I think it will be a medium scoring game (mid twenties to mid thirties for both teams) with both sides having a chance to win

I would give much credit to Bellevue who matched DLS in the off season workouts and started a Freshman who did not attempt a pass.

They beat DLS in every facet of the game.

They did seem to acquire some top local talent to help make history though.

He was a 14 year old sophomore

not a freshman

_____________
DLS had its weakest team of athletes in perhaps 20 years
that was before the team lost its top TWO lineman in preseason injuries

and with all that the game was 23-20 with about 4 minutes left in the first half

Bellevue was able to drive down the field
the QB ran a keeper and his knee hit at the two then he stretched after he was down across the goal line
the refs gave him a TD although he clearly was down before strecthing the ball

DLS trailed 30-20 at half and kicked off to start the second half

Bellevue fumbled on the first play of the second half and DLS recovered deep in Bellevue territory
a mysterious penalty was called on DLS and Bellevue was allowed to keep possession

they scored to make it 36-20 and later added a FG

whatever chances DLS had turned when the fumble recovery was reversed

Bellevue was the better team
but DLS won 2 of its first 7 games
CLovis West beat DLS just as handily the next week (30-12)

Oh goodness stop with the ridiculous propping up of CC. DLS is luck the CIF screwed Birmingham. CC has beaten one noetworthy team all year, in a win againjst Crespi much closer than the score indicated. They lost to a decent but not great Mater Dei team. Birmingham lost to Crespi the first game of the year when they played without their QB. Since then, they won at Poly-who won CIF SS- and beat Notre Dame on their way to a completley dominating City section title.

I wanted to check out the game this year, but I'm so disgusted with the selection of CC I may stay home.

Though, looking on the bright side, you could say the two teams are a good match for each other: They made it through the season beating basicallly NOBODY. CIF has made it clear playing a tough schedule is not of value.

I think the case was made that CC beat crespi and crespi beat birmingham

birmingham beat LB Poly
LB Poly beat Crespi

they ranked them

1 cc (beat crespi)
2 birmingham (lost to crespi)
3 lb poly (beat crespi, loss to birmingham)

hard to argue with that logice

Quite the contrary, actually. The whole thing seems to revolve around Crespi. Yet, Poly beat Crespi, and Birmingham beat Poly. The comparative results approach cancels itself out imo. Then you consider:
1) Birmigham's loss to Crespi was in week one when the Patriots were without their QB
2) The fact that the remainder of Birmingham's schedule was MUCH more difficult than CC. Heck, the team CC beat to get to the bowl game was a 5-loss team!

This guy (CWEagle) wrote a nice piece on the CC/DLS game...His school is a common opponent.

Clovis West has experience with DLS and CC........
and, this will be an interesting match-up. Though CW has played CC 5 times and lost 4, this year, I thought CC was beatable. CW went into that game without Jelmini, a true difference maker from the ball control standpoint, and lost by a touchdown at CC. Unless the defense has improved drastically, CC will have a tough time limiting the DLS offense.

CW has not played DLS for two years, but, some things about that program never change. DLS supporters will insist that they were "down" for a couple of years (what ever that means) and were not playing up to the DLS standard of excellence. Whatever. Both years were very successful and, for what it's worth, ALL high school teams experience personnel turnovers on an annual basis.

DLS operates like a very well-oiled machine. The kids are very strong and work weights year-round like none other. They believe in their system, their coach, and each other. They are also very quick. Almost impossible to replicate their offense in practice. Even when you know what they intend to do, they do it anyway. In terms of fundamentals, they approach perfection.

CC operates the best spread I've seen in high school. Probably the most explosive offense around. Scott and Bass have a way of making defenses pay when they make any mistakes at all. If a defence guesses wrong, it's too late.....TD. I don't know how they draw up plays but, it almost reminds me of Hawaii. The receivers seem to adjust to the dbs mid-route and Scott seems to find them or, break off big runs. DLSs' quickness may hurt them and expose them to big plays if they react too quickly. By the same token, CC has probably not seen a defense as quick as DLS's since the CW game.

Both teams are extremely well-coached. And, though Lad has been accused of walking on water, I think the CC kids have every bit as much confidence in their coach and system. Neither team has played the toughest of schedules but, they have smashed everyone in their way (except MD on the CC schedule) and that's all you can ask.

As always, it will come down to preparation, execution, and adjustments. I would expect both teams to move the ball and have difficulty on the defensive side. It may well come down to special teams play or a crucial turnover. In my opnion, a DLS vs CC match-up favors DLS by 10.

I think CC would beat up on B-Ham.

What are the odds in the future that they have the section champs, north and south respectively, compete in a playoff before having the North and South champs meet eachother. Why leave it to a committe to decide who the north and south reps will be?

How many sectional champs are there in the Southern part of the state that are D1? Northern part?

CC's soft, passive defensive front would get eaten alive by Milton Knox, IMO. CC will give up not less than 40 to DLS.

Are you making claims their defense is soft because of the MD game? They didn't matchup with MD IMO. I thought before that game that MD would score at will on CC. I don't see the same thing in this game. They matchup a lot better against DLS. CC has a very fast front 7. B-ham wouldn't stop CC.

I'll hold out hope that CC's quickness up front will help them vs. a DLS Ol that typically likes to outquick its opponent. But, if CC goes with the two and three (little) man fronts against the DLS running game like they did vs. MD (different style O I know) it will get ugly. Bottom line is, CC shocked Crespi early in the year and otherwise has zero in the way of significant wins. Winning by two TD's at Poly, beating Notre Dame and completing a historically dominant run through the City section playoffs should have given Birmingham the nod.

Notre Dame was an overrated team like I said at the beginning of the year. CC didn't shock Crespi. CC was and is a better team than crespi. Crespi was lucky to have been in that game late IMO. CC moved the ball up and down the field on Crespi.

It's nice to see that Centennial has the athletes on defense to prevent big plays and also has a tendency to give up big plays.
