I think the only teams I'd take over Buford would be Lowndes, Warner Robins Northside (I refuse to go along with the Northside-Warner Robins convention), and maybe just a few others. Do you really think there are ten teams in the state of Georgia better than Buford on a neutral field? I say no way.
However, I get a kick out of my Georgia friends who still talk about Buford's blowout win over Grove City. They still can't seem to grasp the concept that Grove City went 2-8 this year, and that Buford's win over GC means next to nothing.
I would have liked to have seen Buford take on Youngstown Mooney in the Herbie this year, though. It was pretty much a waste to have Mooney play Gateway and Buford play Grove City.
Simply because of the size differential student #'s. And Grove City has fielded some decent teams over the years. And seemed to be a decent offense the week before but couldn't punch it in.Looking over their history on their website I figured they would be better than they turned out. After all the Dawgs have made the playoffs fairly often since 89 and have been ranked as high as #9 in USA Today. So more was expected from them from Bufords perspective.Still if Buford disliked them as much as say Dublin, or Greater Atlanta Christian, Simpson would have shown no mercy. Plus never mistreat your hosts.I figured Grove City would be somewhere along the lines of South Gwinnett, or Marietta, some decent 6-4 to 8-2 type of team.GC still moved the ball on their opponents ie Dublin-Coffman with more sucess than against Buford.I agree Buford-Mooney would have been a steller game.Additionally I don't believe Mooney could play GCL-South or some other Ohio Div-1 leagues and not take some lumps.Attrition takes it's toll in a leagues like that and could Mooney have hung in there week in and out? Buford could probably have beaten quite a few AAAAA and AAAA, and most AAA teams, but in Region 1-AAAAA alone the rigors of the week in and out physical and speedy nature of the game would quickly catch up with them. Lowndes, NWR, Coffee Cty, Tift Cty, N Gwinnett, Roswell, Brookwood, Carver-Columbus,Tucker, Thomas Cty Central,Camden Cty,Westside-Macon Ware Cty, Valdosta, MLK, Norcross, Carrollton, Newnan, Rome, all come to mind as teams I saw this year who I believe would beat Buford the majority of the times. In playing these larger schools attrition is the issue and depth to overcome injury (especially up front). After all their 45 game win streak a few years back was ended by a mediocre Central Gwinnett team .Buford was a very good AA team but not nothing to warrant a parade down Peachtree St about. And expect Charlton to dominate for the next 2 years.Count on it.Buford will return 5 starters for 2008.Could be a humbling season. Yeah Buford was the better team this year, but still could generate very little offense against easily the best defense the Wolves met this past season. And plueezee don't keep talking about how if the game had been at Ridden Field Buford would have "blown" Charlton out.Would not have happened. After all Charlton has defeated Buford in their room as well. They are not scared or intimadated by each other and thats why their matchups are usually super games.Charlton has a booster club. They would have come up the day before worked out, settled in at the motel, and been bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to play Buford anywhere. I still believe Charlton can beat them on the right day. They pretty much shut each other down and senior leadership as much as anything was the deciding factor in Bufords favor (and a couple of takeaways).

The above url would be a good place to pose your ?'s about Bufords ability to play competively week in and out in the larger classifications.
