Well deserved POY for Quinn Kwasniak. He was the state POY but did not win POY in his local coverage area by the News Herald.

That name goes back to the early 90’s days when I played at St. Ed’s. I know the VASJ history but can you fill in the timeline?

The News-Herald award covers D1, D2, D3 and D4. Some very good players this year. No shame in not winning this year. Ioppolo, Dragas and Register Jr all really good this year. Plus Richmond Hts is in the News-Herald area. Teams do make a concerted to stop him with his crazy Curry range. But you got schools like Horizon Academy, Fuchs Mizrachi and Medina Christian TWICE on the schedule. It's not fair, but people see that and not what he did against Mentor and Richmond Hts. I'm betting he'll win it next year with all those guys graduating.

1 Simple question - do you think any of the 3 players you mentioned from Mentor, Madison or Eastlake North score 38 against Richmond Heights in a playoff game (or regular season game for that matter) ?

Possibly, if they are Cornerstone. But does one game a season make? The kid can shoot it no doubt. He will set the record next season. Put the other 3 on the team and is it still a 40 point loss. Switch any of those 4 for a season and their numbers would be similar. I think Register would have a hard time a against Richmond Hts though. Dragas has had 50 point games. Iopplolo without Bidwell next to him could do it. Those 2 kids average 50 between them. Ioppolo would probably have 10 dunks a game against Horizon or Fuchs Mizrachi. Just a bigger more athletic kid. No shame in "losing" that award to Seniors. It's his to lose next year.

Plenty of others well deserving. Look at the 28 ppg Elwer averaged at Delphos playing a MAC schedule. Also, Richmond Heights should have a few guys who play a full season.

I guarantee none of these guys win a D4 POY next year.

Just talking about News-Herald area players. Richmond Hts might have 6 D1 guys. Their schedule is one of the hardest around. Their team is not built for 33 pt/game scorer (not saying they couldn't do it though). The CVC conference let them and Lutheran West opt out for basketball. Schedules do count at some point. My debate was for New Herald player of the year which encompasses all divisions.

Watched Elwer put 38 on Dunbar in less than 3 quarters. Maybe the best shooting performance I have ever seen by a HS kid. Would probably have gone for 50+ if he hadn't got suckerpunched and sat out the last 10 minutes of the game.

Very similar situation at CC to McDonald and Rasile. Eerily similar.

Flyin' to the Hoop should go hard after a Willoughby Cornerstone Christian vs. Delphos St. John's matchup next year.

Elwer had 4 in the first quarter than 34 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters vs. Dunbar. He was pulled from the game with 2:00 left in the third quarter. Him getting hurt in the District semi-final game was a gut punch to DSJ.

You really shouldn't have said gut punch after what happened in the Dunbar game lol
