Arlington (1-0) won this game with defense and more defense. De Vante Bausby (Pittsburg State) and Tomasi Laulile (BYU) each had a pick-six to lead the winner's defense. Donald Payne (Stetson) led the defense with 5.5 tackles. Drew Plitt (Ball State) had 172 passing yards and a pick for the winning team. The Vipers (0-1), Luis Perez (Texas A&M-Commerce) had 249 yards, and 3 touchdown passes but threw two bad pick sixes that led to the defeat. Former Buckeye Rod Smith started but carried just five times for 1 yard.
