Are you a true West Sider??

Who owns Nick and Tom’s?
Lambrinides extended family of Skyline Chili. While some of them still own Skyline franchises on the West Side, others have opened their own restaurants like Nick and Tom’s (Tom, Gregg, and Tim Lambrinides), and the Silver Ladle (Tim Lambrinides).

Its been a while since I have posted. There is a lot happening in Price Hill over the summer and into the start of the school year. All of the Price Hill parochial schools opened with roughly the same enrollment as last year. Elder has gotten some of the graduates, although DePaul Christo Rey still gets quite a few from Holy Family. The charter school that was in the old church at the top of Grand and Glenway has moved to St. Martin's former school building.

As far as development is concerned, the Glenway micro brew/taproom/restaurant across from Elder has restarted after a fire delayed the project. Phase One is nearing completion which will repurpose the old bank building so that two current tenants can move there freeing up the space for the bar and restaurant. Also, the Boys/Girls Club has started site prep for their new trade training site on the old Radel Funeral Home site (the old Schulte Mansion site).

Price Hill Will is making progress in finding buyers for two West Price Hill landmarks, the Kries Mansion on Rapid Run near Glenway and the old Chinchilla House further west on Glenway.

St. Lawrence just had a successful festival and St. William's Rock the Hill is coming up on October 12th. The biggest event of the summer was the Eucharistic procession that went from St. Lawrence to a great multicultural outdoor dinner at St. William. That was part of the national Eucharistic Pilgrimage which culminated in the event in Indianapolis.

I am looking forward to Friday nights outside in the heart of Price Hill.

The white house at 4708 Glenway used to have a sign out front that read, “Koch Chinchillas.” I believe the residents bred them and also sold chinchilla-related supplies.
Thanks P on P, I had not had gotten a chance to reply. Yes, it is at 4708 Glenway. The old man who lived there raised chinchillas throughout the 60's and 70's. I guess he travelled for shows and fairs as he had a trailer that said "Raise chinchillas for fun and profit!" on the side.

The man died a couple years ago and left no apparent heir. He had no kids and his wife had died quite a while ago. Late in life he let squatters live on his property, in the home, in a camper in the back yard and in a couple tents. When he died most of them moved into the house and the property fell further in decay. Eventually a nephew was located in the Pacific Northwest and an attorney picked up the probate of the estate. Price Hill Will and, I believe the Port Authority, got a contract to purchase the home and used volunteers to clear it out and stabilize the property.

I understand that several potential buyers have come forward to buy the property as their primary residence. It is a great old house on a big lot near St. Teresa on a stretch of Glenway some have dubbed "Millionaire Row".

What is a chinchilla house?
Hah! Brings back memories. There was a chinchilla house on Westwood Northern Blvd back in the seventies. A Koch lived there too. Not sure if it was the same guy or a relative. Lived there with a wife and three kids although I do not think any of the kids were his. Kept I'm guessing about 35-50 chinchillas in cages in the basement. I might be way off on numbers, but that is how I remember it.

I thought I heard on 700 today that Neumann Golf Course will be getting a new clubhouse. If true that is well overdue. Does anyone know anything?

On the bowling front I heard that the new GM at Western Bowl is an Elder guy, a former Elder bowling coach. Did not catch the name though, maybe Sievers?

Can’t verify the name but he was the Elder bowling coach. He addressed the Thursday senior league last week about the ownership and the plans they have for the property. It will take time to accomplish it all due to the cost but it sounds pretty impressive.

Do you remember any of the details?

I think re-opening the old Doc Hollidays space as a retro-arcade would be a home run.

I hope so. Neumann is a gem on the west side for affordable golf. I'm not a golfer, but Neumann is a cool place.

Could you elaborate on some of the plans? I always felt Western Bowl had so much potential. Western Bowl is a large property with a ton of lanes and even more unused space that could be utilized for other family-friendly entertainment options.

$4 million renovation to the clubhouse. I believe the funding has to be passed from the city first. The westside has long been a dumping ground by the City of Cincinnati. It would not surprise me to see this fail or plans change to divert less of the funds granted. Let's hope this gets done. The westside needs any type of improvement to any business or park it can get.

They are building a new arcade. They are taking about a dozen lanes on the restaurant end and making a rentable boutique party type bowling venue. There’s still a ton of money to be spent on carpet, tile, new seating, roof and ceiling work, etc. The manager wants to concentrate on youth programs. He said it’s hard for Cincinnati high school teams to get to state because Dayton has way better youth leagues.

Is the Mexican restaurant under separate ownership than the bowling alley? I think Stumps is adding a restaurant.

Awesome to hear. There's so much space at Western bowl with the pool hall space, Cancun, bars, old Doc Holiday. They could really make something unique and fantastic. I hope it's successful.

I heard Stumps is going to be converted to Pickleball courts, not bowling.
Based on this photo shared to Facebook yesterday, there will still be bowling. Though based on its popularity, someone should open a pickleball facility or some unused tennis courts should be converted. Maybe at one of the local swim clubs?

Could be. I was at Ron's Roost last weekend picking up some fried chicken and saw there was work being done behind Stumps.

Wonder if they'll be outdoor, indoor or under some sort of awning/roof/etc. Indoor pickleball facilities seem to be popping up around the area, usually with a bar/food attached. Based on what I've seen at parks like Kuliga, the courts are always full and people move to the tennis courts to play, so having some place on this side of town that offers it up during cold months could be great. Especially with the bowling alley and bar attached.
