All-Ohio Questions

1. How did the OPSWA vote Collin White the best player in Ohio regardless of division (Mr. Basketball) and also vote him Co-POY in Division 3? Intuitively it makes no sense.

2. On the OHSAA website it appears the OPSWA took over All-Ohio selections and started naming hundreds of kids per division All-Ohio in 2018. Any idea why that was done and who was doing All-Ohio before that? Some very average kids were named "All-Ohio", waters down the meaning.

One has nothing to do with the other........ridiculous!

There are some sports, now, that basically take the All-District teams and move them forward to All-Ohio. You were District POY? You're 1st Team All-Ohio. You were 1st Team All-District? You either get 1st Team or 2nd Team All-Ohio. You were Honorable Mention All-District? You're Special Mention All-Ohio. And so on. (it's probably not exactly like that, but you get the idea)

Basically, these systems have been implemented to place less pressure and less work on the voters; it's easier just to have hard-fast rules rather than force them to do any homework.

Everyone gets a trophy . . .

Further explanation please....
Meaning that the media outlets aren't like they used to be in the 90's and 80's or before when they all corresponded with one another and all-state, /all conference or all-league teams had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams with 5 players on each team and in no way would an outright state POY or Mr./Mrs. Basketball share a conference POY. In today's world of where everyone gets a participation trophy and not a lot of media outlets have Sports Directors or do research anymore, they now make everyone happy, have they're own awards with no regard for other writers or state outlets. It waters it down and awards do not have the same prestige as it used to. One has nothing to do with the other.
