Looking at the tournament brackets….in Division VII - why in the world would they send NW Ohio 6 district all the way to the SW region?
Why would you think that? Solid wins vs a good Michigan team and a D1 team in Perrysburg no matter their record is a tough outDefiance has racked up some impressive wins without losing, so far - Orchard Lake, Perrysburg, Jonathan Alder, Wapak...Gonna suck when they lose in the district or regional.
Baseball might be the toughest sport in which to advance down a tournament trail. No one player can affect any given game in any sport like a pitcher can in baseball. Outside of the magical 3 titles-in-4-year period, Defiance has a history of losing in the regional. I don't remember the numbers anymore because unfortunately the school's athletic web site changed for the worse, but the ratio of district titles to regional titles is low, if you ask me. Sure, Start was tough to get past in the 90s, but the fact that many of the tournament losses have come randomly - as a favorite - against non-powerhouses has, in my opinion, been a bit disappointing. Why would you think that? That was a great time to play Alder. They had three league games in four days including two against highly thought of Springfield Kenton Ridge leading up to Saturday’s game. They threw their #5/6 pitcher against Defiance and he really kind of held them at bay. Although Alder bats weren’t real active.Defiance has racked up some impressive wins without losing, so far - Orchard Lake, Perrysburg, Jonathan Alder, Wapak...Gonna suck when they lose in the district or regional.
If you didn't score Alder was never going to win regardless of who was pitching. You think Defiance adjusted their rotation just for this game? I doubt Coach Weaver did that at this point in the season. Play the game, tip your hat, make no excuses and hope for a better outcome next time. That was a great time to play Alder. No excuses, just simply saying that was a great time to play them. That’s baseball. If you didn't score Alder was never going to win regardless of who was pitching. Defiance and the WBL also only play a single round robin so they don’t need to utilize their pitching in the same way that other teams and leagues do. Baseball is the highest variance sport in high school when it comes to non-league games imo because pitching matchups can make the game results nearly meaningless at times. If you didn't score Alder was never going to win regardless of who was pitching.
