D3 R12
Celina

Wapakoneta

D4 R14
Elida***
Kenton
Ottawa-Glandorf***

D5 R20
Bath***

Lots of changes in WBL land. St Marys and O-G each got bumped up in divisions while Elida and Bath dropped a division. Shawnee shifted from R12 to R10, so it's no longer just Defiance up there. Region 14 has overtaken Region 12 as the region with the most WBL schools.

The WBL was very nearly all D3/D4 this season; Bath is the largest school in D5, so they just barely dropped. As a whole, no real surprises. St Marys, O-G, and Bath have fluctuated between those divisions in the past several years. I guess the biggest surprise for me is Elida dropping. Elida's been D3 every year since the addition of D7 in 2013 and beyond that I don't know, 25+ years?

Also notable is the new Region 12. It's very different. Trotwood-Madison and Badin were both bumped up to D2. Just by a hair. They're among the smallest schools in D2. Bellefontaine and London have also moved over from R11 to R12, which could create some interesting playoff matchups. St Marys-London had a recently competitive home-and-home series and Bellefontaine has plenty of history as a former WBL member and played Wapakoneta for a while in the week one non-league game.

Region 14 could feature a lot of WBL-SBC matchups, or well, even WBL-WBL match-ups since those schools often qualify for playoffs, especially in the expanded 16-team first round.

This will take some getting used to overall, but some interesting changes.

Wapak has a (hold your breathe) good shot at winning Region 12. Crazy that the #1 and #3 team last year in Region 12 are now in D-2. I believe Tipp City is graduating a lot as did Celina.

WBL Week 1 Games

Bath @ New Bremen
Celina vs. Columbus South
Defiance @ Napoleon
Elida @ Toledo Rogers
Kenton vs. Eastwood
Ottawa-Glandorf vs. Liberty-Benton

Shawnee @ Lima Central Catholic
St Marys Memorial vs. St Henry
Van Wert vs. Bryan
Wapakoneta vs. Toledo St. John's Jesuit

It's a bit too early to actually talk about week one and game day predictions. Only posting the week one games to highlight the new match-ups for the WBL this year. I like the new opponents for O-G and Wapak. Celina getting.... Columbus South? A bit underwhelming.

I believe it is a 1 year filler game for Celina.

When was Bellefontaine EVER in the WBL?

Honestly they would have had a better shot if things stayed the same. Bellefontaine is now in R12 and that comes with Tavien St. Clair, who scouts are saying is having an amazing offseason and is challenging for the #1 player in the country. Even if his supporting cast isn’t that great (I’m not sure who Bellefontaine is bringing back), players like that can carry teams.

Is that Wapak game at home or up in toledo? I do not know anythinga botu TSJJ but I presume Wapak just had too much in blowing that lead vs MSML last year?

I expect Celina to take a step back, obviously, but I hope last season gives the program a rebirth and this year is just a slight hiccup on the way to a reload.
I do not think they are far enough along to do a reload, but I also do not believe they are in rebuild mode and are somewhere in between

The Wapak vs St Marys game will be who stops who between Wapak potent pass offense and St Marys almost unstoppable run game.

SJJ has been down the past two years, and they graduate their best WR/DB threat in Joseph Taylor. We are very much aways out from football season, but I have a big feeling that this is Wapak's game to lose, ESPECIALLY if it's at home. Good matchup nonetheless.

We have some big shoes to fill, but have a solid group returning. I expect anywhere from 6-4 to 8-2.

Girls Basketball -- Ottawa-Glandorf
Boys Bowling -- St Marys Memorial
Girls Bowling -- St Marys Memorial
Boys Swimming -- Shawnee

O-G just on fire this winter. The Titans almost won the boys swimming title too. They're making a strong case for the All Sports Trophy.

Boys Tennis: Shawnee
Boys T&F: Ottawa-Glandorf
Girls T&F: Ottawa-Glandorf

edited to add girls tennis to OG. Didn't realize that was a tie with Shawnee. Lots of ties across the league for sports titles.

Could potentially come down to how many 2nd and 3rd place finishes Shawnee and OG have.

Any idea what happened here?
Two students were involved in a serious accident on 29 near the sheriff’s office. Vehicle being driven by the student went left of center and struck a semi. The passenger in the car sustained the worst injuries and was careflighted to Dayton.

The passenger of the car passed away earlier today.

It's been a brutal start to 2024 for the community of Celina and fatal car accidents involving young people. Prayers for all the families and people involved. Truly a tragedy.
Celina has had 2 students killed and Parkway 1. Plus the tragedy down in Darke County recently. The last month has had 3 of the 4.

I’ve been a big proponent for increasing the driving age. Seems many 16 year olds are not ready for that responsibility. Prayers to all of these families.

Article in today’s Celina Daily Standard about a community town hall and also committee to discuss Celina athletic facilities long term master plan. My gut tells me Celina will have a new football stadium and new gym with both current facilities being razed.
