2024 VASJ Vikings Football **Official Thread**

Some 7 on 7 updates:

VASJ is competing in the DeShawn Watson 7 on 7 challenge in Berea this afternoon.

The Vikes went 3-0 in pool play. And made it to the competitions final four with Glenville, Benedictine, and Kirtland. From Matt Goul, it looks like their opponent in the next round will be Kirtland and winner will get Bene or Glenville.

Great to see the skill positions thriving in competitions and getting continued reps before heading into the season.
Update: Vikings fall to Kirtland in the semi’s.

Correction the kid that played QB yesterday was a RB/Reciver. Never played QB in any game ever. Mainly a defender and he won the MVP yesterday as well.
That’s pretty cool! Definition of next man up mentality from Kirtland!

I did hear that the Vikes were without Bo Jackson and the young 6’-5” TE. That will be two more weapons for the offense, come season time.

Still a good showing from the Vikes.

That is 100% true. I heard that last night. Yesterday was the first time he ever attempted to play that position. If he was ever needed to play QB in a game he would be like 5th string - SMH. What yesterday showed was what great athletes Kirtland developes. These kids week in and week out go toe to toe with the most talented teams in Ohio and PA - and rarely end up losing. Crazy

Wanted to take time to wish Coach Storey a happy 83rd birthday today!

Coach patrolled the sidelines after Coach Gutbrod in 1991-1994 before being replaced by the late Tom Schoen. Coach eventually returned to the Village to patrol the sidelines once again in 2009 until moving to the football director role in 2017.

Absolute legend. It was an honor to play for Coach Storey back in the day.

So what is the seating situation at the new field? Will they have visitors stands? What is anticipated capacity overall?
They have done nothing for seating or press box, same ole bullcrap stadium it's always been...did rotskey run out of money buying his players?

My man, you need to get yourself a Snickers, it's 11:30 in the morning. Why so angry? Oh, and you spelled his name wrong.

I would argue that turf, lights and a scoreboard clearly make it upgraded. That's kind of a no brainer. Oh yeah, new windows, new atrium and whole school AC going in. Lot's of improvements going on at the Viking Village. They'll get those stands as soon as possible.

Far from the same ole bullcr@p stadium you proclaimed.

Rotsky has nothing to do with the project so you’re wrong there.

Bleachers ran into fundraising issues that are being addressed for next season because of higher priority projects going on in the school with the installation of the new HVAC system. Bleachers and pressbox are not cheap. Price is 1.1 million for that to be done. Infrastructure is there for the new seating and press box to go in. Just needs be purchased and built.

Before you start spewing more bullcr@p, do some research and keep your mouth shut for Christ sakes!

Oh wait, should have known, another Lake Catholic schmuk that spews BS that makes their more respectable supporters look bad.

On that note:

Here are the upcoming scrimmages:

8/9 @ Geneva 10am -Spire Institute Stadium
8/16 vs Wheeling Park (WV) 6pm -STVM

Seems like two soft touches. What you think?
Geneva had a solid season last year, I think getting the #1 spot before bowing out in the early rounds to Chardon I believe last season. Good team? Yes, title contender? No disrespect, but no chance.

Wheeling Park is another solid team from WV who usually finished above .500 and is a regular in WV’s playoffs.

Both teams will give the Vikings plenty of challenges to get the team ready for GlenOak in Week 1.

Don’t disagree but with the talent level and D3 title aspirations I would think Joes would schedule at least one tough scrimmage. Not a criticism, simply my opinion.

They will bring in the needed seating. I went to a game there last year (University) and it was fine. It was really nice.

You mean the same chicken s@#t Lake Catholic that won't play VASJ. I'm surprised Lake has a scrimmage with Kirtland - it's not their style to let a little D6 school kick the crap out of them.

I’m sure that WP and Geneva will be the only teams present as sometimes there are two other teams. And i’m also sure there may be other scrimmages added before Week 1.

But Ghost of Gutbrod is right, the MOST important thing going into the season is staying healthy going into Week 1

Absolutely agree

For sure. It’s possible to schedule a challenging scrimmage and still go into the season healthy, Either way I’m a fan of a bunch kids on the team and I’m hoping you guys knock off TCC and bring a trophy to Lakeshore Blvd.

The calendar has officially flipped to August, and today is the day that fall practices and 2 a days has begun.

Kickoff at GlenOak is officially 3 weeks and a day away and the road to Canton starts now!

Good luck Vikings hoping for a great and healthy season!

A bit off topic, the girls flag football team took on Maple Heights at halftime of the Hall of Fame Game. The Lady Vikes and Maple Hts tied each other with the score 6-6.

Regarding the pic, looking more into the video, it may have been an Alliance football player that looked similar to one of the football players at VASJ.
