2024 Track

guess im not paying attention that closely then LOL. regardless, their main core will be less than 10 once the end of the season comes.
That's typical for all of us. Our championship season team will most likely have fewer numbers the better we are. Instead of using 3 or 4 throwers to get them experience, we might only use 2. We might scale the District team down to 16-17 kids. 2 throwers, 7-8 sprinters/ hurdles/ jumps, 6-7 distance. If we are not as good, or chances of scoring and advancing is not as strong, add 1-2 kids per group. So 24 ish. Maybe a few more because we have more alternates for relays, but can usually 24-26 would be a max for us.

Where are your school’s going this weekend for invitationals? I know it’s prom for some schools… Looking at the Poland Invitational, that meet is not how it used to be. Not as many big schools from NEO; mainly D3s from the area.

Big marks out of the Wayne Invite the last two evenings...

Jamier Averette-Brown (Wayne) lowers the Ohio Freshmen record to 21.37 (+0.5 wind), breaking the previous record by 0.15 seconds by Gahanna Lincoln's Blake Heriot back in 2007. He also lowered his own frosh record in the 100m to 10.53 (+1.9 wind) (= #21 all-time), 2nd behind Coy Hyre (Brookville) with his own 10.48 PB, who moves to =9 all-time himself.

ELEVEN (11) boys under 9:10 in the 3200m, FOUR (4) under 9:00 !
Connor Long (Whitehouse Anthony Wayne) takes the win with his 8:57.90 PB

Eric Pugh (Wayne) raises his outdoor best to 16' 0", becoming the 58th member of that club, but still 8" below his indoor best from this year.

Troy's Devon Strobel joins the 180 foot club with his 181' 8" win.

For those that complain about weather for track in Ohio. This is Alaska. I guess it would cut down on the wind.

Marion Local won the boys MAC Championship, Minster the girls. 2 records set on the boy's side both in relays Marion Local 4x200 with a time of 1:29.67 and 4x100: 43.54. Girls in the 100 the top 3 finishers broke the old record with Kessen of DSJ winning in a time of 12.19. Izzy Zahn smashed her own record in the 200 with a time 0f 24.53 which would have finished 11th in the boys 200. Fort Recovery girls broke the 4x100 meet record with a time of 49.66.

Is it a graduation requirement? That's like 75% participation. We are at 20-22% this year for the largest teams we've ever had. Do they have baseball? Add in baseball and they have like 85% + participation. Do they have dual meets to get all the kids involved? In all honesty, that is impressive. Can't wrap my head around it impressive.
Yes, Marion Local track roster is close to a 100 and the baseball team has 26 players. The Flyers participate in a lot of invitationals in which some they will run their backup athletes to keep participation high. Justin Knouff who is ML's no.1 sprinter in the 100 this year, was no.7 last on the team in the 100 according to the Flyer's HC in an article earlier this year in the Daily standard.

Edit: An ex. of ML's depth is in the 400, the "kid"(a sr.) who finished 2nd in the 400 at the MAC may or may not run the 400 in the District as he is actually the 3rd fastest on the team in the 400. I know this may sound "pompous or arrogant "but if you want more kids to play sports well you need to play them and not sit them on the sidelines regardless of the sport.

Completely agree. We evaluate our schedule every season to see where we can get more kids involved. Invitationals that allow more than 2 entries. We like our dual meets because every kid gets involved in those. Hybrid Relay meets that have individual events as well. We like to fill the track with relays in our dual meets. We also do not let event entries go unfilled. We teach a lot of kids to do a lot of things. Competing in meets is the objective and not just out there training.

I am a Marion Local homer, but the Flyers have kids who have never participated at district level till their sr. year. They stuck with it because they run in a lot of events during their career and "belief" in the system.
