2024 OHSAA Girls Volleyball State Tournament

What happened to that sweep? I didn't run my mouth. I just know that Cincinnati winning 3 of 5 isn't a sweep. Congrats to the ladies who won. Guess we will have to see if the cats can bring the boys title home this year.
Nobody called a sweep. It was only mentioned that it was a possibility due to the 5 Cincinnati teams being in the finals. Pretty sure everyone picked Lake Catholic. Either way Cincinnati won 3 to Clevelands 2. Last I checked Cincinnati has 3 boys state titles to Clevelands 0. Cincinnati Volleyball > Cleveland Volleyball.

For D4 it seemed pretty obvious Markington had no business being on the court. RB best player did not play and they still were in total control of the match. I sensed whoever survived the gauntlet in Region 16 was going to roll in the final 4.

Good thing I'm a hockey parent otherwise I might care. You proposed the sweep and it didn't happen. You were wrong

I made the trek to Wright State to watch some great volleyball over the weekend – for what it is worth, here is my 2 cents

Gilmore vs Ursuline – couldn’t agree more with GoEaglesCvc - one of the best matches, if not the best, of the weekend IMHO. That match could have gone either way – just fun to watch high school volleyball being played at that level. Gilmore just had too much firepower. Both teams had the talent to win any of the divisions. LOL – no wonder the Gilmore coach is retiring, that team had 11 seniors

Roger Bacon vs Marlington – a close match but Bacon never panicked even with their best player on the sidelines. Matches like this make it harder to beat Bacon as their non-league schedule of playing most of the GGCL pays off in situations like this. Agree with FourthAndOne as it looked like Marlington wasn’t ready for this intensity.

SUA vs Anthony Wayne – talk about “a tale of 2 halves”- AW won the first set 25-23 then took control of the second set and won. Again there is something to be said about playing a GGCL schedule, SUA didn’t panic and stuck with the script then proceeded to control the rest of the match – at times it looked like AW didn’t know what hit them. SUA showed a lot of composure and grit

Seton vs St Joe’s – St Joes setter is hands down the best player in the state, she can definitely do it all – fun to watch but this match was all Seton – Seton hiccupped in the first set a little but pulled it out 26-24 & easily won the next 2 sets. Talked with a Seton parent and they said that since dropping the first set against Mason in the Regional finals, the team was pissed at themselves and was locked in & focused on running the table, “they weren’t being denied”. Hard to beat a team that plays defense like that and no weakness/step down in any of their rotations.

Just saw this on Cincinnati High School Rankings Facebook page.
Since Sept 28. Seton is 13-0 and 39-3 in sets.
Wins include an October 3rd sweep of D2 State Champ SUA, an October 5th 3-1 win over D3 State Champ Gilmour, and an October 5th sweep of D4 State Champ Roger Bacon.

I like having 7 Divisions. At the same time there needs to be better balance in the Regions. Cincinnati and Cleveland should probably both get teams into multiple regions for some of these divisions. Would of much rather seen RB vs Mcnick in the Final Four vs who RB had to play.

They used to do this years ago where the winner of R4 could choose to walk their way to the final game thru one of the Regions. Believe they stopped this around '07/08 - Mercy & MND met up in the finals in back to back years - with them splitting

I agree on the GGCL schedule.

Anthony Wayne needed the Pike's to have triplets and not "just" twins. Pikes combined for 52 Kills in the match.

Looks like AW just ran out of gas with SUA - first 2 sets - Hit % of 25% with 6 blocks & 8 aces - out scored SUA 50-43 // last three sets, hit % of 8%, 4 blocks & 4 aces // SUA outscored 65-42 - moral of the story is these public schools need to schedule 2 to 3 of the top parochial schools to prep for these types of matches.

AW played Toledo SUA, Toledo NDA, Watterson, Magnificat, and St Joseph. Only loss to St Joseph. They probably did all they could schedule wise out of conference.

You are right - thanks for pointing that out. Probably then just ran into a team that they didn't match up with over a long match.

Both points can be right at the same time.

AW upgraded their schedule beyond anything they have scheduled in the past. St. Joe being the best team on their schedule.

....and the GGCL prepared Cincy SUA for anything in the tournament. MND beat St. Joe 2x and MND went 1-7 in the GGCL.....crazy.

Best league in the state and it has been for decades.

Well, I can say in Division VII the State needs to really watch how they break down the final four pairings. If they have SW and NW meet in anything other than the finals its going to be a brutal final. NE and SE just aren't on the same level and it's not even close, especially the next two years.

At least in D6 and D7 you can split up some of the MAC area schools between NW and SW.
