Alice Brock, who has died aged 83, was the owner of a restaurant immortalised by Arlo Guthrie in his 1967 mock-heroic ballad Alice’s Restaurant (or to give it its full title Alice’s Restaurant Massacree), and inspired a 1969 film of the same name directed by Arthur Penn and starring Guthrie, with Pat Quinn as Alice.
For those of us who are a certain age, the aura of mortality hovers around everyday.
