2023 St. Ignatius Football

While I could slightly (slightly) agree, with the D1 Region 1 playoff format the way it is, you are getting in no matter what so why not prepare for weeks 11 and beyond?
I agree with playing a solid schedule that prepares you for the playoffs. I have always been an advocate for that. I just think they might be overdoing it with a potential 10 week gauntlet. Playing a couple of games that Ignatius is actually the true favorite can actually be helpful as well. 1 advantage is that your coach can get many non-starters in more games with more minutes that could pay dividends down the road. The other is 10 weeks of week in and week out against studs and the physicality that comes with that may not be the best approach. A couple game break of that could also pay dividends come playoff time. (just my opinion).

Agree , funny the eagles a few miles down the road don’t have an issue scheduling a murders row and crying about it.

Most Ignatius people were not complaining about the football schedule when they had teams like Eds does now. They don't yet the schedule still remains difficult.

Congratulations to Tommy Eichenberg '19 on his selection to the 1st team all Big Ten and 2nd team All-America, per The Sporting News, USA Today, Walter Camp Football Fndn, CBS Sports, AP and FWAA

One of the best players to watch at Ignatius, especially his senior year.

So, which family can be considered the first family of Ignatius football? Eichenberg? McVey? Haddad? Ryan? Which is your choice?

Probably the Haddad and McVey families at the top.
I should have stipulated that the choices should be limited to their hs performance. With that, Haddad and McVey are great choices. The choices are not limited to the ones I cited.

Tough call but I have to go with Haddad. Similar age group and now Drew has kids coming through the pipeline.

Nick Gonzalez was the elder of the group but played baseball only for St. Ignatius. Their family and the Van der Oord's were from Avon Lake. The Gonzalez family dominated the CYO games while playing at St. Joes when I was there.

For the Masseys, there was also Jim, who was class of 1997.

The "he has nothing left to prove" mantra has been removed from the Ignatius football program.

New era. Zero titles for this staff, other than as assistants in 2011.

Yes, and all the glory days assistants retirements or departures predated kyle as well. It's a new Era now, test begins. What kind of Era will it be? We have seen other programs go both ways after glory years

True.

Franzinger made it sound like he will keep things the same way but that hasn't been successful, especially against the Eagles.

I have no doubts that Ignatius will find success again, and I think it will be sooner rather than later. While honorable, Coach Kyles unwavering dedication to the "Ignatius way" is just not the attitude that wins titles anymore. Less kids playing CYO football and moving to other sports, leaving what was normally a massive talent pool down to picking up the kids that didn't go to St. Edward. I think our relationship with the Muny League is something Ignatius doesn't have, and I'm not sure if they want it or not.

But I think it was pretty clear that it was time to move on and Kyle's reign couldn't last forever. Franzinger is an interesting coach, if he can keep the traditions of the program and breathe new life into it, you should be fine, but it can always turn into an identity crisis, which is going to be easy to get into considering the program had a constant identity for almost 40 years.

I assume both accept vouchers? I honestly am not aware if yes or no
Here's a link to the list of primary and secondary schools in Ohio that are accepting students with vouchers, along with the number of such students receiving EdChoice vouchers or city of Cleveland vouchers or Jon Peterson scholarships ("special needs" students with IEPs/Individualized Education Programs or Autism ("special needs" student) scholarships
