2023-24 Ohio State Basketball

Ripping Thornton is inane. He is the most coveted player on the OSU roster, an excellent college guard. It was reported that when Holtmann was canned, a ton of teams' NIL collectives called his family about transferring.

As noted above, he has a great A-TO ratio, takes care of the ball, makes his free throws and scores 16 a game. He absolutely can get his own shot, he does it almost too often. He absolutely will be the first guy the new coach reaches out to. Thornton, Gayle, Okpara, Royal and Middleton is a decent starting point for next year. Retain them, and find some more athletic size.

He sucks, but he hit the game winner tonight. Same as when Holden beat Rutgers last season.
Bonner does not suck, might not be good but he came to OSU on Holtmann's request. Holtmann may suck for bringing Bonner to OSU but that is not on Bonner. Ok to criticize college players but to say they suck is a little over the top IMO.

To make matters worse, OSU doesn’t not have one player coming in from the 2024 class that is over 6’6. This team needs an infusion of multiple athletic 6’9/6’10 guys in the worst way possible.
Right now, OSU only has 2 players recruited for 24, with a new coach coming in I could see half the team turned over in the portal, less OSU went on an insane finish and Diebler got the job.

Coming into this season OSU since 2004 - 05 (Matta era) has had only 2 teams not win 20 games in a season last year and Matta's last season. Only one other BIG team (I believe) can make that claim MSU which also has had only 2 teams not win 20 games during that span. Hopefully the Bucks can win 4 more games before the season ends to finish with 20 plus wins.

Held on to Holtmann 1 year too long, as we all knew. This team hadn't quit on each other, rather, they quit on Holtmann who showed no energy nor in game strategy or responsiveness

Of the utmost importance to win the last two games for there to be any marginal path to an at-large.

Both remaining opponents (Michigan and Rutgers) are, respectively, hot trash and trash. Michigan at home is a quad 3 opponent and @ Rutgers is a quad 2. Losing to either would be a big late season blemish that discredits some of the team's current momentum.

In the standings, they are currently tied for 10th in terms of wins with Indiana and Maryland. I think IU finishes 1-2 or 0-3 down the stretch, while Maryland splits and goes 1-1. Winning the last two should get them out of the bottom 4 in the standings, and gives them a four game path in the Big Ten tournament instead of a five game path. The odds of making a run, let alone winning, have to go up exponentially without having to play the additional game.

Agreed on all that. I cannot believe there is still a path, but certainly Hummel thinks so based on his comments last night.

Under JD OSU defense has kept the Bucks in games while the offense goes cold. The Bucks also look to run more scored 12 pts. off 8 Husker TO's and 11 fast break pts. even though Thornton did not play. Rebounding has improved out boarded the Huskers by 10 and the Buckeyes look to attack the basket on offense leading to more foul shots. Diebler actually accentuates the strengths of the players something Holtmann failed to do, for instance Gayle did not take a 3-pt. shot last night but drove to the bucket collecting fouls and Key who is a banger did not play the 2nd half last night as he cannot guard in space. JD is not going to get the HC job, but he has done a heck of a job of salvaging the season somewhat.

Agreed - Diebler has done a great job. Love his positivity and the messages he delivered when the TV camera goes in huddle.

Currently 63rd in NET (8th in the Big Ten) and 57th in KenPom (9th in the Big Ten).

A top-50 NET opponent is a Quad 1 game on a neutral floor. It may actually be to their advantage to be the 11 seed, as getting three wins and getting to the semifinals would probably include two Quad 1 neutral court wins.

Those two wins and if they can get to the B1G tourney final and lose a close one to a ranked opponent they might make it to the NCAA...IF another win over Purdue occurs in the B1G tourney.

Blowing out Michigan at home could be a double-edged sword as it would give the Buckeyes a nice boost in the NET to the Top 60, but would put Michigan closer to a sub-135 NET ranking, which means OSU's loss in Ann Arbor would be Q3 and serve as a blemish on a team sheet that doesn't have much room for error.

Anyways, I agree that winning out until the Big Ten final is the only legitimate pathway towards a bid.

Bring him to OSU (played 2 years at OSU) and his son: https: https://247sports.com/Player/Jonathan-Sanderson-46141320/
Please do. This is a fairly big loss for Michigan. Sanderson is fairly highly regarded as a basketball S&C coach. I would gladly take him in Columbus when wholesale changes are likely made a month or so from now.

The son being a major recruit would just be the icing on the cake.

is it any wonder I hate basketball? Watching OHS vs Iowa women right before half Ohio gets called for a foul where all she got was ball. Then they call a technical on Ohio and even the announcers said that was not a tech.

The next coach needs to get more high level two way guards that are in the 6’4 - 6-6 height range and more forwards that are in the 6’7-6’10 height range.

Team is just so small across the board

Zed Key is just so f**king bad. Small, slow, can’t explode or block shots, gets dunked on. Just a terrible big ten basketball player
