Season has started up and here is who cleveland.com has as their top 20:

Top players:

Stinks that they have these behind a pay wall but I guess the ads alone are not cutting it. This sport is starting to get highly predictable, in NEO it seems to be the same cast of characters. In Div I Padua & St. Joe's, Div II Gilmour & NDCL, and in Div III Independence. There are some nice players at other schools but nowhere near the 7-9 player depth the above have needed to make a run in the OHSAA playoffs.

In Cleveland, are the high school coaches in the Parochial schools tied to the local club teams? All the GGCL coaches (other than Mercy McAuley) are affiliated with Elevation or Tri State Elite.

Padua's coach (BeHarry) is the founder and director of Maverick Volleyball

Yes they are. They are spread around the big three national programs of AVC, CVC, and Eastside. Maverick, Southwest, and Ignite are part of the next step down and are more American level but they too all have Catholic school coaches as part of their staffs. They all try to coach the 13s or 14s for some reason :) The NDCL coach is at AVC, the Gilmour Coach is assistant director at Eastside, and the St. Joe's coach is on at CVC. The top pubs like Hudson, Strongsville, and Independence are also peppered among these clubs too. Volleyball is a very incestual business...

In a mild upset Magnificat took down Padua in straight sets. Padua's Middles had all kind of trouble with Mags MH Sophia Anghilante who had 20 kills in only 3 sets. This match was also held at Padua which has one of the biggest home court advantages in CLE. In related news BeHarry's head exploded during the match.

Padua is 0-3 so far - and they haven't even won a set yet. They lost too much talent with last year's class and the current senior class is thin (I believe only one regular player is a senior).

Right lost almost all of their talent from a 2021 class that had several 3 and 4 year starters, including at least 4 D1 players and a few other D2 players. Didn't they also lose the 6'3" twins who had a lot of potential?

Yeah. 3 seniors went D1, 2 went D2 and at least one I believe is playing D3. And the twins have transferred - I don't know if it was back to their home district (they were from Vermillion from what I gathered - a long drive) or to another private school.

Yeah, it looks like we are now in the Gilmour era for NEO. Not only do they have some of the top upperclassmen in the state but they have 4 Freshmen worthy of making a returning state champ's roster. So once Randorf and crew moves on they will have plenty in the cupboard to step up and replace this talent.

In related news it looks like Kenston Middle School is listed as their primary feeder for competitive balance purposes :ROFLMAO:

SW Ohio is wiiiiiide open. Nearly any of the GGCL schools could emerge. Favorites are Ursuline and Ursula, but if MND gets the POY back, it could be them. Someone mentioned Lebanon being strong as well. Who can stay healthy and play their best during the playoffs?

Checking out the brackets today and so far outside of Padua dropping like a bad habit there are not a lot surprises in NEO for Regional Finals. In Div I maybe Amherst, (Kudos for beating St Ursula) can upset St. Joseph Academy but I would not count on it, I like Jackson's chances against Mags but Jackson has been there quite a few times so that is no big upset. In Div II it is yet again the old North Coast Conference invitational with an all NCC final in Stow and the Gilmour machine getting ready to roll over another public school in Vermillion. In Div III Independence got tested but made it through. In Div IV I don't think any teams from NEO are represented unless you consider Calvert NEO, probably more NWO.

Calvert is nowhere near NEO, lol.

Lebanon was strong and talented this yr. I personally think the HC at times would piss and moan so much about calls that it impacted her own players/team sometimes. In the 2 times I saw them play this year it was very odd to see a HC constantly complaining while winning so handily.

Looks like MND Won

Congrats to Magnificat for finally brining the Div 1 title back to NEO, hopefully Gilmour and Independence can keep the mojo going today.
