Information about the 2011 Ned Reeb is posted on swimmeet.com. COSA the meet sponsor is instituting an interesting new aspect to the meet. This year in addition to the prelim/final with cut times (designated "A-flight") there will be a "B-flight" that will swim between the A-flight prelims and the finals. There are no cut times for the B-flight.
Kudos to COSA for this imaginative concept that will allow more swimmers to experience the OSU facility. It is not clear from the information if the team limit of 6 swimmers per event applies to the A & B flights combined or separately. Regardless of which way it is, this will significantly increase the number of swimmers who have the opportunity to swim. Of course it will also likely increase the revenue (from the swimmers & the gate) generated by the meet. It will be interesting to see how this works and if it will continue and possibly expand in the future.
One way to expand it might be to place an additional heat from the B-flight in the finals and score that meet separately from the A-flight. Anyway, someone is being creative which will allow more swimmers to participate. And that's always a good thing. Well done COSA!
