It is amazing how pathetic this forum has become due to social media misinformation/disinformation.

From what I have read I'm 95% sure this was not nefarious and was caused by loss of engine power. This older bridge does not have a cofferdam base pier that would prevent this sort of thing from happening, similar to the Tampa Bay Sky Way (before and after). Crews do not send out "mayday" calls when they are intentionally trying to ram a bridge. I question why no tug boats were involved and I'm sure an investigation will prove some incompetence in the crew.

Once the pier was compromised it was over.

The new Tampa Bay Sky Way has a cofferdam buffer to prevent this.

The 233 million pounds you cite is likely a measurement of gravitational weight. One would also need to know the speed of the vessel to determine its momentum and from there one should be able to find the force applied to the bridge.

@Gee As a retired merchant marine who has spent hundreds of hours manning a bridge watch traversing many ports and bridges just like this one, I can unequivocally say that the chances for a disaster such as this one to be a legitamate acident is close to nill. The only way this is legit is if they lost all main engines and hull thrusters, and ability to drop bow/stern anchors all at the same time. These ships are built for redundant emergency steerage back-ups. Another red flag is no crew were hurt. If that was the case then there was no crew on stand by anchors which is SOP for port traversing. But, I'm sure we have another noble lie to explain all these anamolies tee'd up for MSM.

Bridge repairs happen all day every day. Biden and the Dems didn't wave a magic wand and suddenly bridges got repaired.

But run with there was no such thing as highway and bridge construction until Biden saved the day if you must.

So what class of people do you fit into when making claims of the bridge being repaired at he time it's collapsed. They were filling post holes which has nothing to do with the bridges structural integrity. You can fill pot holes all day long on every bridge there is in this world and it will not make them safer just smoother to travel on. By the way I do feel bad about all those that lost their lives. I do not know where my above statements make me a sick human.

So two pages into a thread about a Cargo ship crashing into and collapsing an entire bridge, resulting in 6 people still unaccounted for and it turned right into which politicians fault this is. You guys need to get a grip. Ship weighing 233 million pounds into the bridge isn’t a certain politicians fault.
