Top 5 Teams in your County's History

Fairfield County

1. 2019 Pickerington Central
2. 2017 Pickerington Central
3. 2000 Amanda-Clearcreek
4. 1965 Millersport
5. 1998 Fisher Cath

What about the 70 team max?
No question, the 1970 Tiger team was a juggernaut. However, that Massillon team finished in 2nd place in the country. My list includes only the national champions for that particular year. By the way, in no way am I saying the 1970 Tigers wasn’t a great team. They certainly were.? In addition, the 1959 & 1961 teams which won national titles aren’t on the list.?They certainly were great.

I'm Curious to hear people opinions on this

In Hamilton County

1. 2004 Colerain
2. 2007 St. Xavier
3. 1980 Moeller
4. 2014 La Salle
5. 1977 Moeller
2014 LaSalle was a great D2 team that beat some solid D1’s, but they lost a game and I think there are some others in Hamilton County history that would take their spot in the top five. I mean, the Faust Moeller teams were loaded for about a decade.

Stark County

*1940——Massillon Washington
*1936——Massillon Washington
*1950——Massillon Washington
*1953——Massillon Washington
*1997——Canton McKinley

*National Champions
1950 will, to me, be the greatest team ever.

Athens County:
2014 Athens: Division III State Runner-Up; Ohsaa State record 861 points scored
1981 Nelsonville-York: Division IV State Champions
2019 Trimble: Outscored opponents 448-6 in regular season, but fell to Division VI State Runner-Up, Springfield 20-19
2013 Trimble: First Regional Title in school history, Division VII State Runner-Up, loss to Marion Local 33-0.
2018 Trimble: Third Regional Title in school history, Division VII State Runner-Up, loss to McComb 28-3.

I think nearly all A-C fans will agree the 1999 team was better than the 2000 team. I would sub them at 3. I would drop the 2000 team to 5 and bump Fisher. I know you are an alum but state titles rate over runners up. I will grandfather 65 Port in, as they were unscored upon.

1997 Defiance- only state champ in county history
2000 Defiance- 12-1, lost to Buchtel in OT in the regional finals
2014 Tinora- lost to state champion Minster 14-13 in the semis. Would have had a legit shot at Kirtland had they won, one of the few D6 teams who had a shot at beating the MAC/Kirtland in the last decade.
1986 Ayersville- 13-1, lost to Newark Catholic 28-27 in the state finals
1994 Defiance- 10-2, gave Walsh Jesuit all the could handle in the regional finals before falling short.

Only went with the playoff era.

Hicksville and Fairview had some nice runs, but no teams that really stood out as legit threats against the top teams in the division. I'd have no problem switching one of them, likely 2004 or 2011, regional champ Hicksville.

No discredit to Massillon, but how in the world could some determine a national champ in the 30’s\50’s?? Teams didn’t travel across country like they do now, you couldn’t physically watch anyone but your own team play nor could anyone really scout out of state.

Trumbull
1974 Warren Harding Panthers
1972 Warren Western Reserve Raiders
1990 Warren Harding Raiders
1971 Warren Harding Panthers
Tie: 1973 Warren Western Reserve or 2002 Warren Harding Raiders

Good list.
I think you would have to add the Niles team from 1961 or 1963. One of those teams is likely #1.

Brookfield in '78 was also fantastic.

Of the 70's Warren powerhouses, 1972 Warren Western Reserve may have been the best.

The oldest of the national rating systems started in 1927, National Sports News Service (NSNS).

Yeah — you’re right. Friend reminded me that in ‘99 they beat Chanel that year before they beat St Henry in the final; when I picked 2000 it was the year they beat Chanel in the state final and for some reason (prob because I respect the former Chanel tradition) I put greater emphasis on them beating SPC than I did St. Henry. Was Bam Childress in that state final? That’s where I was thinking 2000 was better originally.

Is 1999 the year they beat the hell out of the team from Canada?

this is going off memory and tape I watched was born in 02 but I think La Salle could have gone unbeaten that year rumors i heard the players got over their heads against x and came down to earth afterwards common enemy for a team is theirselves

Brookfield team was tremendous and I thought about those Niles 60’s teams. All great teams.
1974 Harding team
21 out of the 22 starters or all 22 ran a 5.0 flat or below.
Ziegler Richburg, Hudson, and Valentine were well below a 5.0 flat.
Won the state championship game 40-8. Only reason they lost to Mckinley late in the season is I believe Jim Richburg the QB got hurt.
