Which would be a “Worse punishment”? “House Arrest” or Prison?

Just wondering mainly what is the difference between being placed on “House Arrest” and actually say serving your sentence or time in a prison/jail facility? I hear house arrest “inmates/criminals” have to wear like “ankle monitors” or something along those lines to keep track if they’re staying at home or not? Which would you think would be a “worse punishment” or worse situation for someone to be in? Being on House arrest or actually being in jail? Just trying to educate more on it.

Based on the spring of 2020, house arrest would be a living hell for for a large portion of the population. In particular, those who lean right in their politics.

Knock it of you boob. It’s not a political question. I’d say prison would be worse in the fact you’d have to worry about rape, being murdered and in your cell for a long period of time everyday, but you do get the social aspect of it. House arrest you don’t have to worry about any of that, except your isolated the whole time. House arrest for me.

lol. Fine.... it was the drunks who complained first.

I would lock the criminal in a largely empty room with a 20 foot reticulated python. They would spend the majority of their time in constant terror trying to stay as far away from the snake as they can, but at some point they are going to pass out from exhaustion…then comes the death squeeze.

As others have said, House Arrest is far LESS a punishment than prison. It's also far cheaper, hence the point. The only real issue with the use of House Arrest is that the systems used (such as the ankle monitors) aren't that precise and can flag you as out of your assigned space which can come back on you. And be a reason you're sent to real jail/prison.

You can have guests. You can watch TV, use the internet, etc (unless that's specifically restricted). And usually if you're a non-violent offender and usually first time punishment don't even start with an ankle monitor. You just get checked in on by your parole officer and if you're not there where you're supposed to be THEN you get the monitor. And you pay for it. And it's not cheap.

The other thing with House Arrest, is it usually has time stipulations that allow you to leave home to go to work, doctors visits, etc. This is easier than prison or jail where you're released for things as there's much more protocol to follow to let you in and out of prison (smuggling things back in, verifying you're really the inmate furloughed, etc). And at least under that type of house arrest, you can still make money and therefore PAY for your incarceration rather than prison where the government is paying a large sum to house/feed/care for you in their custody.

Although, this could be worse:

From my experience prison is much worse. I actually enjoy the occasional "sorry, I can't leave the house this weekend ". I have never felt that way about prison.

ALL depends upon what the chicks look like for those conjugal visitations.

No contest. Prison is worse. A former neighbor of mine even had a yard sale with her ankle monitor on. I noticed that all of the items still had the retail price tags on them.

I would say easily the worse punishment of these two would be prison. Under house arrest, you're still living in your home and doing all the home things.

I would take house arrest any day. just think Get up in when you want go to bed when you want with who ever you want to bed down with. Eat what and when you want. you get the idea and the best thing about house arrest is I can drink my coffee and be on Yappi in the morning. What are the odds you could do that in jail.
