Meg 2: The Trench (2023) 2/8 I guess I should have known better after the first one, but I'm a sucker for shark movies. The writers doubled down on the stupid and corny for this one.

The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) is a 1956 American suspense thriller film directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart and Doris Day. (Wikipedia)

Maybe worthy of the four stars TCM awarded it - when it came out in '56, but 6/8 is more like it for me. Had my child been kidnapped, I don't know if I could have held it together.

Doris freaked out at first, then pulled it together. Jimmy was a pretty cool cuke. I see there is a 1934 Hitchcock version wherein the daughter is snatched. In this version, the victim is a boy.

Batman Begins (2005) 5.5/8 Christian Bale begins his role as Batman. Solid origin story, that I think is an afterthought sometimes because the Dark Knight was such a great movie. I like this one better than the Dark Knight Rises, but overall the Christian Bale/Christopher Nolan trilogy is solid set of movies.

Iron Claw: "inspired by true events" movie about the Von Erich wrestling family...I enjoyed it a little more than my wife, but I also enjoyed professional wrestling when I was a kid. As somebody mentioned on the November movie thread, Zach Efron is pretty good in this movie.

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)

Kids cause Santa's (played by Kurt Russell) sleigh to crash over Chicago. Hijinks ensue. Kind of a mess. 4.1/8

Wonka (2023) 4/8 Thought this was just okay. Not walk out of the theater bad, but not watch it again good either. As a fan of the Wilder and Depp versions, I was glad I saw it and found it somewhat entertaining.

Smoove went with one of the concessionary chickies Smoove been "hangin'" with to see Boys in the Boat. Smoove have to admittate that it was goot! Really Goot! Smoove almost had a couple of tears come out Smoove's eyez, but Smoove thought a little better because the chickies dun-already said she don't get down with no dude that weeps at movies. So, Smoove bit Smoove's upper and lower lips, took a deep breathation, and thought of the goot time that was 'bout to happenate on the latter part of the evenin', and Smoove was all GOLDEN, y'all!
Rate this movie, Smoove give it a 9/10, enjoyable, for a movie about boatin'. This is somethin' Smoove want to do, but not rowin'. Smoove wanna get out on the water and chillaxify with someone and enjoy Smoove's self. Someone on another thread said they used to have a Sea Ray, Smoove would rent it for a night, but they ain't gots it no more. Anyone gots a boat they can let Smoove rent....and no, smarties, not right now in the dead of the winterization.....in the Summer when Smoove can get his mooves on in the moonlight!!!! BAM, BAM, BAM!!!!!

We really liked it, but my biggest issue was that none of the songs were memorable like the other movies.

Good Boy (2020)

Horror: A woman suffering with anxiety gets talked into getting a dog at the pound and soon her problems start to go away.... dead away that is.... It can't be the pooch can it? ... 5.0/8

Feral (2021)

Horror: A camping trip turns horrific for a couple. This one was OK to not very good but the ending was a surprise so +1 for that..... 5.0/8

Leave the World Behind (2023) 5/8 Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke star as a couple renting a vacation home on Long Island when two strangers show up in the middle of the night claiming to be the owners and there because of a blackout in the city. Things go sideways and get much stranger from there. Solid movie with plenty of suspense and drama.

Cheaper By The Dozen (1950) 4.5/8

Charming flick based on the book of the same title about motion-study pioneer Frank Gilbreth and his large family, covering roughly the years 1919-1924.

Clifton Webb is excellent as the arrogant-but-loving Gilbreth, to Myrna Loy's ever-patient (and fertile) Mrs. Gilbreth. Jeanne Crain as the oldest daughter. Edgar Buchanan has a great scene as the grouchy family doctor, and Betty Lynn (Barney's Thelma Lou) is gorgeous as a southern high school belle who is Ms. Crain's wingman at the school dance.

The book was written by Frank Jr, who penned a number of books based on the family's adventures involving his father's work. Pleasant reading, and some really funny stories in there.

Hellraiser 11: Hellraiser (2022)

Horror: The 11th installment or reboot as it actually works either way brings us some more Cenobite action. Some might be disappointed by the new Pinhead or The Priest I guess is what it is called in this one but for me it did not take much away from the movie. After being disappointed by the last 3 Hellraiser movies this one was a pleasant surprise. A recovering addict having rough times stumbles upon the puzzle backs and does not realize what she is about to release....... Of course I have seen all the Hellraiser movies and hopefully they make many more as this new installment ranks around #4 or 5 of the series!!!!! ... 5.5/8

Saltburn 2023 - 7/10

Started off very slow and boring but wow what and ending. The main character was very cunning and deceptive.

Jerry McGuire (1996) - Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger, Cuba Gooding, Jr.

The typical TC facial mannerisms (if it works...) and cute RZ's "Meg Ryan" looks.*

Although a tired theme (Was it tired in '96?), a pretty good watch. 5.750/8.000

* Face slightly tilted in a manner that invokes "huh...whuh?".

Cuba won Best Supporting Actor for this

Aliens (1986)

Sadly MAX does not have the director's cut. Missing were the scenes with the colonists, the mention that Ripley had a daughter, and Bill Paxton's "ultimate badass" speech. All add so much tragedy, depth, and/or character that the film really misses if you have the knowledge that they exist.

Theatrical cut = 7.3/8. Director's cut = 8/8

Phantom Thread (2017)

Daniel Day Lewis

Looks like he mailed it in for his last performance. Sadly just not very good.

Game Over (2021)

Horror: A mother trying to bond with her teen son designs a video game based on the "Murder House" from the first season of American Horror Story. While this did have the characters and actors from the series in it they were not able to capture the magic from the original and turned this into a disaster..... 2.5/8

Poor Things - Been away for a while. Took a little sanity break. Saw this last night. I loved it. Wife did not. She called it porn, as if that was a bad thing. There was a lot of nudity. I was a bit surprised by how much myself. The story was great. The performances of Stone, Dafoe and Ruffalo are Academy worthy. Some of the "steampunk" stuff was a bit much and not necessary. Victorian London was whimsical enough without all of the weird stuff.

7/8

No One Will Save You (2023)

Horror: Small town, a not well liked woman lives alone in the boonies and during the night she hears someone or something breaking in...... This one was hit and miss throughout. Did it want to be serious or some sort of dark comedy? Maybe I missed something .... 4.5/8
