Welcome Stadium state finals

The first state title game I ever attended was the first state title game, way back before most of you were born. In tournament history, I've been to about 200 title games in all. I've been to every location they were ever held in, in all.kinds of weather. I've met people from hundreds of schools... players, coaches, administrators, parents and fans.
For most, there are a few issues that, later, are seen to be meaningless. The primary one is distance. In the end, most I've talked to see it as a minor inconvenience and really don't care... except in combination with the time of the game. It can result in an overnight stay which some object to.
The REAL issues for most all have to with convenience AT THE LOCATION... parking, gates, vending, bathrooms. And, by extension, restaurants, etc. They are the SAME issues people deal with at a home game. However, the NUMBER ONE issue is ease of access / traffic. That is why having the games in Ckeveland or Cincinnati or Columbus is near impossible. Friday afternoon is no time to be dumping an additional several thousand cars onto the streets and highways around the Shoe. It's been discussed ad nauseam and is considered a real safety problem.
Everyone wants the games near their hometown. What we should be focusing on is what location offers the best experience for the players, coaches and fans. I loved it when I lived in Canton and could walk to Fawcett. But, I wondered if things like the lousy parking made the place less than the ideal. Now that the HOF Village is finally being realized, it's hard to make an argument against Benson, though I have long moved away.
This discussion began when the playoffs began. And, it will go on until the OHSAA builds a sports facility of its own in the geographic center of the state. But, if you only go to the finals when your school is in it, you should drop out of the conversation.

When the running track was taken out of the football stadium at OSU, the OHSAA state track meet moved to Welcome stadium in Dayton and stayed there for five years 1999-2003. How was it that Welcome stadium was chosen for the state track & field meet and what was it like for those who went there?

welcome stadium is a pretty nice place to watch a track meet. not as much football. stands are too far from the field for football. for a track meet, the sight lines are pretty nice.

I think you are spot here. I would also like to state again, the people that run and are the face of Welcome are not very welcoming. I always feel like an inconvenience when I walk into that stadium.

"Well, goodbye, Mr. Carlson, and beware the Dayton Poisoner". Les Nessman :ROFLMAO:

Can't see it ever being at Welcome since they share a parking lot with UD Arena. UD sells out every game and would more then likely have a game there on the weekends
Canton parking is 10x worst then UD. Rather its the locals charging to park in their yard or walking under that overpass to get to stadium.

I would assume thats downtown Columbus. Right by nationwide arena and everything else
I thought you were talking about the original Crew Stadium (now named Historic Crew Stadium). Definitely not downtown.

The new stadium is in the Arena District, which is close enough to downtown that I wouldn't quibble with calling it downtown.
The main problem is that it's a grass field.

There's no way they'll play hs games at lower field. Just at the old Historic Crew Stadium with tons of parking and a turf field.

That will be rectified once the Village is complete there will be enough parking for 18,000 Cars when it is complete. Also when at some point in the next set of Phases there will be a 9,200 - 10,000 seat arena within the footprint of Hall of Fame Village that will be supported by its own parking Print.

Stop trying to force fit it. Either leave in the one place that seems to want it, or just play them the same way as they do for weeks 11-15.

18,000 cars... This is about as funny as the 15 to 18 billion price tag you put on the village. Just to compare Disney in Florida. The Magic Kingdom Parking lot is over 125 acres and can hold over 12,000 cars. This is actually larger than the Magic Kingdom itself!

How about just doing away with the championships all together? That way we will no longer have the constant complaints of : location, private schools and " recruiting," and teams scheduling Harbin cows and avoiding real competition. If there are no championships, leagues will mean more, rivalries can be re-established, and the schools that never qualify for the playoffs can be like everyone else. Otherwise, just recycle the same topics yearly so no one has to post something and think that the idea is original.

Interesting concepts 🤔 . Maybe, you should not opine on recycled topics.

Then what would Licking County Fan whine about? This guy has been whining since I joined over 15 years ago. Who'd thought complaining on Yappi wouldn't solve the issue. 😂

Pretty sure that 9,200 - 10,000 seat arena idea has been dropped. (Plus was it ever supposed to be that large? I thought more in the 6,000 range.)

Or perhaps it is still in the plans for say Phase IV. (I will take the under on the arena ever happing. Perhaps they will have arena prop bets at the new sportsbook.)

Oh, and the 18,000 parking spaces… 😂

The Arena is Slated for another set of Phases. The original footprint for the arena was very small and they wanted it bigger.
