Week 9 Elder vs. Bishop Chatard(IN)

After soaking in this comment, this might be one of the most ‘tarded Yappi posts I’ve seen. Elder has talent but they ALWAYS lack the speed & athleticism at the Skill positions & the Secondary. And they usually have decent HS players but the fact they never have true studs, is why they haven’t won a title in 20 yrs. Put Spencer Ware on the ‘08 & ‘09 teams, they’re back to back champs. Put Corey Kiner on the ‘19 team, they’re State champs. Not having that one explosive playmaker, that can take over a game, is their albatross. To act like that deficiency is bc of Coaching and mismanaging personnel, is flat out ignorant.
I’m not saying they were necessarily “plus” athletes in the mold that you’re suggesting, but ‘08/‘09 had Ben Coffaro and Adam Brown who could definitely break off explosive plays and ‘19 had Luebbe who very clearly made a living off of explosive plays. Do those additions help? Obviously, but to say those teams didn’t have explosive playmakers is stupid. It’s BECAUSE of guys like that that those teams had such success. ‘08/‘09 were probably some of the most balanced teams Elder’s had.

And they win state in ‘08 & ‘09 with Spencer Ware at RB. Coffaro would’ve been a big upgrade to the Secondary. I believe he ended up playing DB at Holy Cross.

2 years ago, they finished 5-5 but that felt ok bc they had 4-5 Sophs starting. It looked like the future would be strong, this yr finishing 5-5 is a major disappointment.

Pretty simple. They lost two tough games to really strong teams, both times they had leads late in the game.

Against Lou X on the road, they were in complete control of the game. Botched FG for TD, 3 and out, TD and suddenly it's a 3-point game. No panic, they've been in tight games, they drive down score and take the 2-score lead again.

Against St X, Elder gives up a long run down inside the 5. A Bomber TD essentially seals the game, would have put them up 11. Instead the defense holds them, they missed a chip shot and the offense goes down to score the go ahead TD with under a minute left. X then kicks the game tying FG to force OT. Bombers score first. Elder scores secons, goes for 2 and gets it.

Sometimes you need to learn how to win those tight games by figuring out how you lost ones earlier.

Poor judgement and decision making on personal is the issue and always has been.
What? I know a lot of people get mad that Ramsey tends to hog a lot of talent on offense, but there aren't any obvious players playing out of position IMO. And none of them would turn around the entire side of the football one way or another.

But they got their teeth kicked in yesterday, so those lessons didn’t stick

Not necessarily. Chatard is a really good team, as is Moeller. I don't think Chatard had this giant advantage in athleticism like Moeller did, but they beat Elder in execution. It was near flawless, which usually is Elder's calling card. When Elder couldn't match some early scores, things snow balled to a 21-point hole. They still went down and scored before half to make it 21-7, then drove the ball into Chatard territory to open the 3rd Qtr before stalling out.

The final score was worse than the talent disparity, but Chatard is clearly the better team, specifically defensively right now. I feel the same way about Moeller, though the talent disparity is bigger, especially at the offensive skill positions.

No, the lack of athleticism is a much larger issue. It’s absurd you think some combination of personnel would solve this. Again, you had a DB in perfect position on the final TD pass mistime a jump and totally whiff knocking the ball away.

Elder doesn’t have the speed or athleticism to compete, they just don’t. The staff is squeezing blood from a stone a lot of the time. But that doesn’t excuse how bad the coaching was last night. Everything was bad top to bottom.

Chatard was not more athletic than Elder. Elder just played terrible and got outplayed by Chatard. It happens. Let's see how they respond week 10.

Didn't you learn your lesson from baseball season about giving up on teams?

Yes, but the way he wrote it he is saying "is a major disappointment". He's already chalking up a loss Friday night.
The injuries are too much to overcome in addition to having zero run game outside the QB.

Again, the team isn’t quitting but it’s painfully obvious they don’t have much left in the tank. Despite what some of the smooth brains on here think, grit isn’t a scientific term. The team is physically worn down. There’s too many guys playing at far less than 100%

Joey Thamann had some nice runs before he got dinged. I may be wrong, but I don't believe he played Friday. Sure, he's not a big, bruising between-the-tackles runner, but if he is able to return this Friday or for the playoffs he can only help the run game.

He’s a good 3rd down type of Back, but they need a consistent RB to run bw the Tackles.

He played Friday. Ran it 4 times for 15 yards per GCLSports.com.

I do not believe they can make the switch completely, but a package of plays with Schachleiter at QB and Brass at RB could be effective.

Don’t suffocate on all that copium. In case you didn’t know, Baseball & Football are difft sports. Baseball has a higher degree of variability in outcomes. That should be evident based on the 2 teams in the NLCS.

I’m telling you, the team is beat up and gassed. Almost nobody is playing at 100%. It’s not about effort, they aren’t healthy and will not be healthy the rest of the yr.
