Week 2: Stow vs Barberton

the worst thing the refs did last night, and I was shocked that the Stow coaches didn't go ballistic: Barberton has the ball at the Stow 30 and faces fourth and 10. They try a field goal which just misses...the refs dont move the chains at all and Stow starts at their 20??????

That is correct. The ball is placed at the 20 on all missed field goals.

Really? I thought it came to the twenty if the ball was inside the 20 but at the previous line of scrimmage if the ball is outside the 20. When did that change and what would stop a team backed up at their own goal line from trying a field goal instead of punting?

Worse group of refs I have ever watched manage a game. ( not bad calls in particular or screwing one team but just management of the game.. it was passed 9 before half time, it seemed like there was a time ouy after every play to sort something out... question ? If your on you own 16 and get a 15 yard penalty, isn't that half the distance to the goal instead of placing the team on the 1 yard line.. great game for both teams. I dont see wadsworth being as tough a game for stow as some might think

Sounds right, missed FG that crosses the goal line puts Stow at 20, not the original line of scrimmage. Chains were already there since Barberton LOS was 30, no need to move them, just start at the other end and move the down marker.

Hate it when fans blame officials. BArberton is bound to have a dud game after the past 2 years the yhave had. BOunce back next week. IT is not the officials!

YEs, High School the FG is like a punt. IF it crosses the goal line it comes out to the 20. THAT is exactly why the kicking team should cover the FG because the defensive team can return it, just like Auburn did to Alabama about 7-8 years ago., although college rules are different when the ball crosses the goal line it is not dead.

The refs made the right call. It went through the end zone. It becomes a touchback.

Im not sure if you are serious or joking. So I am just going to answer as you are serious.
Ball is on the 30 Barberton kicks a fg that went into or through the endzone? Ball goes to the 20....
That is absolutely the correct call. In high school any kicked ball that crosses the goal line is a touchback.

We are not blaming refs for loss, that’s all on the Magics, but the refs were horrible for both teams, like it was their first game ever.

Not all field goals, only if the ball crosses the goal line. If you tried a FG from your own GL, it would be treated as a punt.
Also, if the field goal was kicked toward the pylon and went out of bounds at the 5 yard line it would be the defense's ball at the 5 yard line. An obscure high school rule. Think of high school field goals like a punt.

I might be wrong but I think that was the correct placement, as it is considered a touchback in HS football.

Here is the rule as stated by zebrastipes in an earlier post about HS rule misconceptions:
  • An unsuccessful field goal does not go back to the previous spot. It is treated just like a punt (touchback if it crosses the goal line).

Ok I think the 15 replies saying the same thing concerning the results of a missed field goal are sufficient and no one else needs to come in and respond on the matter

Not sure why the Supposed Head Ref with the white hat on, let the 3 other refs constantly get together to discuss something. The game was over 3 hours long. Seemed as if they didn't know what was going on. Calls weren't bad just, still not sure how or why Barberton turned the ball over on downs when it should have been 4th and long, late in the game. Did I miss something?

I said barberton 35-7, we all make that mistake of picking the wrong winner. That j.v quarterback needs to step up to varsity and the coach needs to stop giving the other team the ball at the fifty.

What I saw. The Barberton Clock guys are terrible. Who ever was running the new snap clocks slowed Barberton offense down. We have no homefield advantage with those guys! Happens in basketball also. No Hunky Club today!
