According to hoovervikingsfootball.com, the 2005 varsity football schedule is as follows...

Canton Central Catholic
D.C. Coolidge (Youth FB)???
@ Louisville
@ Boardman
Lake (Homecoming)
Canton GlenOak
@ Austintown Fitch
@ Massillon Perry
Canton McKinley
Massillon Jackson (Senior Night)
State Playoffs

Can anyone explain the week 2 game?

I think that a DC team is going to come to Stark county and play the Vikings. Not sure exactly how it's gonna work, but I believe this is correct.

Interesting... seems like they got whipped any time they played an Ohio team. I just wonder how and why these teams want to travel so much during the school year.

I think the head coach is a McKinley grad. (if not this one, of the DC school's that frequently to travel to OH anyway).

I was talking to some admin people and they indicated that the DC teams really try to get these games to give the kids a "field trip" to Canton to see hte HOF and all that stuff. It is viewed as an educational opportunity while also a sporting event.

I suppose I would have loved to travel to the HOF in HS had I lived out of state.

I was told it was the same team McKinley played. I just assumed the person I talked to it was the Ballou team they played the past few years.

I can explain the week 2 game, its crap.

Green knows that they cannot beat many Div. I teams (including Hoover). Hoover had a VERY BAD season this past year and that is the ONLY reason they won. Apparently they have some smart people in charge that realize this.

But the bottom line is that Hoover should be 2-0 after the first two games next season. This DC team is not very good as far as I can tell.

Also, can anyone explain how the points will work with this DC team?

Last season (2004) they were considered a d3 team (5 pts); one thing to remember is when an Ohio team plays an out of state team, the level 2 points are the same as the defeated team's division regardless of the defeated team's opponents' division (all Coolidge's victories will be considered d3 victories regardless of what division the opponent actually was). Last year Coolidge lost to Ed's 52-0 and Massillon 52-8 and finished the season @ 4-5 for computer point purposes (they played 2 more games subsequent to 10/30 and split them). They had one cancelled game, so that lowered the L2 divisor by one (for Massillon & Eds).

Wow Goalpost

Great info. Thanks for filling everyone in on that. I had no idea how that worked. I knew it had to be either a diluted points schedule like this or simply a no count so it would be as if we played a 9 game season.

We are holding our breath in anticipation of Green’s 2005 football season.

Levi, whip some of your statistical voodoo on this Bulldog who seems to have lost their way. ;)

Hey, I need a good laugh. Does anyone have Green's schedule for next season? I was thinking that maybe they replaced Hoover with the dreaded Garrettsville G-Men or possibly the Springfield Spartans or some other power house like that...

Green chose D1 Stow as Hoover's replacement

Green will play Stow next year to open up the season, followed by a home game with Springfield, and a battle with Garfield to finish out the non-conference schedule....Garrettsville would be a heck of a game tho!!

It was Green's first & only win in 8 tries vs the Vikings. It was at home by 3 points in a game that took place throughout 28 hours and 2 thunderstorm/lightning delays. Green's first and only lead was with under 2 minutes left.

As far as Stow goes that is a laugher. We are playing some DC crap so we can't talk much. Although we play in a league where Green might go 500 in in their best years, so that speaks for itself. Although they are playing SPRINGFIELD & STOW as 2/3 of their non-league sked in a league that is not very strong especially for an up-and-coming D1 program. Blueprint to go 9-1 or 10-0 and get spanked in the first round EVERY year. This ain't D2R5 playing the 5-5 Richfield Revere's in the playoffs. You'll be playing McKinley, Hoover, Massillon, Perry, Jackson, etcera. Then again you might luck out and play Hudson and spank them LOL.

Green fans got mad at y2h and myself for saying they beat a BAD team. They said we weren't giving Green any credit. The plain and simple truth is we were right, Hoover wasn't a GOOD team in 2004. They started feeling sorry for themselves and everything caved in. It seemed like one big penalty or turnover and the game was over. They couldn't overcome any kind of adversity, that was the difference between this team and past teams. Hopefully the seniors this year come out ready to take control of their team. We will always support the Vikings, but we will also voice our displeasure.

Hoover Football 2005: Nowhere to go but up!!!

I will buy that t-shirt :)

Stow shouldn't really count as a D-1. I think they've won 2 games in the last 3 years.

This is a good point.

Louisville vs. Hoover

The home team hasn't won this game since 1998 when Hoover beat Louisville 31-10.

Looking forward to it and wishing it was back in week #1.

Say, I've been collecting high school football t-shirts. Where can I get a decent Hoover football tee?

Funny you say that. I went to a place called "Village Discount Outlet" in Canton on Whipple Avenue. I was referred there by a friend who likes nostalgia. They had a TON of different HS stuff.

I did buy an Ignatius t-shirt for a $1 and wore it to the Hoban/Garfield game and a Hoban mom whose son went to Iggy gave me a free ticket.

i herd northwest has or had a week 2 opening...is this true, and if so, why did hoover chicken out? Hoover is acting like Mass and Mck for scheduling a DC (out of state) team. Maybe I'm not a good fan, but I like good games with meanings and some type of local ties. Good Grief. Hopefully this is a one shot deal.

Probably because Burtsch is going to Northwest and we didn't want anybody trying to hurt somebody.
