PLay of the game a Frenchie out hustled the US and led tk a big three.

American baseball and basketball has long been focused on individualistic style of game where foreigners play more team ball.
It looked like the American players had no desire to be there.

I just want to point out how the team is tuning out Popovich. Yet, there are some idiots that really thought an NBA team would take orders from Becky Hammond as HC.

Selfish players lacking in fundamentals can’t play as a team, shocking. And they can’t handle playing the game without having control of the refs and getting calls. They’re weak.

Plus they have no pride in their country. For that I have zero respect and do not care if they embarrass themselves

A lot of the talking head commentary about this bumfest has missed the big points entirely.

1) FIBA rules vs. NBA rules. NBA rules cater to iso ball and protect iso scorers by heavily favoring the offense. FIBA is a near opposite, and as such you have to constantly move, cut and screen on offense to create advantages -- the opposite of what happens most of the time on most NBA teams. Defensively, most American NBA guys aren't used to guarding that much action on every possession and are prone to frequently gaff. If we play straight iso ball against France and Australia we should probably expect to lose.

2) National team commitment and chemistry. The other better countries like France, Australia and Spain all have several players that have played in every major tournament for 7-10 years. Patty Mills has played in every major tournament for Australia since 2007. With the way you have to play to succeed in FIBA, the talent gap has closed enough USA basketball can't just chuck a roster together at the last minute and expect to beat everyone. The roster turnover from event to event has to be greatly reduced going forward, and it needs to get to being a consistent program where periodically younger guys move up from the select team to replace aged players.

At the end of the day, the USA has the most talented basketball players in the world. Certainly, the international game is a different game but it's not like we're sending a football team to a rugby tournament. It's about effort, execution and fundamentals, three things of which the guys on this team have no interest.

I used to tell the kids I coached that they would be better served watching a college women's game than an NBA game as they would the see ball and player movement, proper technique and sound fundamentals. These guys could take some similar lessons.

I don't blame coaching as ideally for FIBA rules it would be great it we could get guys to play a Spurs style of game, but it's astounding Popovich is only 11-6 coaching the national team when regardless of who suits up they have by far the best talent and are readily if not overwhelmingly favored.

As a whole, yet.
But take a look at some of the top NBA players...they is foreign

Those players from Iran will never forget their game against the 4th best team in the Olympics.
Who knew Iran even had basketball? Remember the Dream Team had photo ops after the game with the opposing teams? It was an honor for them to get dunked on by the NBA stars.

Pretty quiet after this group has strung together a pair of pretty good wins. Will play against France or Slovenia for the gold.

Seem to have figured some things out, namely that KD needs to be the bell cow offensively as well as finding a little bit more pride defensively. They are very fortunate that a few players, especially Holiday, showed up 1-2 days after the NBA Finals concluded.

Yeah very quiet on here after they start winning.
My prediction is they will hest France by 10 plus points. Booker, Midleton and Holday basically just got off the plane prior to the 1st game. Johnson wont play 9 minutes like the 1st game. And since it's the last game there's no overlooking anyone.

Team USA really benefited from the opening loss to France, greater intensity, improved D, more ball movement, players played more as a team than individuals, and deservedly rewarded with ?

I’m hoping going forward they put together a team of young veterans and groom them each offseason to develop them as an Olympic team and not just a collection of players. There really should be no reason to send old vets like Durant and LeBron to the Games anymore.

The problem is the best player under 25 (Doncic) is foreign.

You could put a team together of players from this past draft, the previous draft and the upcoming draft and wipe the floor with the competition if you actually develop them as a team each offseason heading into the Olympics.

Gotta agree. Zion, Trae, Ja, Ayton, Sexton, along with Bam, Holiday, Booker, Holiday would be the makings of a solid 2024, 26 and 28 nucleus. Plus since they all know each other from AAU there would be more camradarie. Throw in some veteran role playets al a Draymond Greene and you got a strong squad ready for the world
