As with any endeavor, especiallly in sports, tenancity is crucial in success.

So it goes with historical research. Tonight, I tracked down the last of the missing Glendale athletes from the 1935 SW Ohio district meet. I had a last name, but after 13 years, I now have the first name of the winner of the Class B SW Ohio district meet 440yd dash - Preston Barker (Glendale). This meet was one of two times the old district meet was held at the University of Cincinnati's Carson Field (Nippert Stadium). The other meet there was in 1943.

Perseverance is one of the most important predictors of success in life. It is one of the key qualities that athletics enables humans to prove to themselves to gain the confidence needed to have a life worth living.

Yes to both of these qualities ("tenacity and perserverance")...but, at the HS level, you have to first be completely immersed in the sport you pursue and have someone, i.e., coach, parent, mentor who knows that sport and serves as an inspiration and leader to guide you through the process. You're too immature at 15 to do it all by yourself. With those things in place, though, then only a lack of talent or genetics can hold you back.
