SVSM Irish 2024

Well, allow me to retort 🤣

I asked the question about STV and Massillon because the assertion is that Hoban started to “outclass” the Irish so that is why the series was dropped; ergo, I asked the question wondering if this is the same reason for the end of that series. I did not realize the record in that series was so lopsided, as I’ve only known it in the 2000s.

I also agree that the era of hiding behind the “playoff push” argument is over. You think you’re great? Play great teams, then.!

Personally, I think the STV v Mass was dropped after the move to WK1 - it was a perfect game for the Irish WK9, but for a lot of reasons did not make sense WK1.

Finally, if the Ytown Cards and the Akron Irish are in the same boat, shouldn’t they be playing each other?

only reason why Massillon wanted to play us week 1 is because their week 9 record is abysmal against Stvm. Since 2012 in 6 games at Tiger stadium the Irish are 4-2 when we play them there. They wanted to play week 1 so they could tie the record in the last eight meetings

Heard things were a little rough for SVSM in their 7-7 at shaker heights. Played shaker, buchtel and perkins each twice. Young guys have to grow up quickly.

Well its a new system our OC will correct things including coach brown since this is his first time coordinating and that's what 7 on 7 is I'd be more scared in a scrimmage than a 7 on 7 in my honest opinion

Coach Grant took the kids to Columbus for 7 on 7s. Bet they were kind of wide eyed at the facilities down there.
keep building their character, Doran. Make them aware of what possibilities life can have for them.

Good words Brooksie. Possibilities

If I am Kyle Sasala (and I am not, obviously) I would be looking hard at a long term relationship for an annual game with the Buchtel Griffins.

That's a quality program that has had its own share of successes. This game would test both schools as a barometer of what kind of team each program had that season.

The difference in division size is irrelevant with the playoffs expanded to 16 teams a few years ago.

A number of these kids came up together in the grade school ranks, so playing against people you know gives you just that extra bit of effort. Each team would get the other's best shot each time they play.

Plus there is a real advantage ($$) to not having to travel across the state for road games. What are the schools, 3 miles apart on Copley Road?

I know Buchtel has league commitments the final 5 weeks of the season - but I am sure if the Irish were willing an opening could be found over the first 5 weeks.

I would love to see a long term home and home started.

I agree. That would be a good matchup most years.

Would be great to see, and actually 2.2 miles separate the 2 schools.

The two schools played against one another in the past. Surprised they haven't done any future games against one another.
You are correct, Red Raider.

I qualify as an old fart, and these two schools have played on and off every few years for as long as I can remember watching HS FB. It just makes way too much sense to make the effort to continue this storied tradition. From the Irish side - as an independent, it may be more difficult to fill 10 games a season. But you do have 10 potential open dates every season to work with.
From Buchtel's side - the Griffins are always looking for games that will challenge them to be a better team prior to Akron City Series play. And like Wildcat said - 2.2 miles between the schools as opposed to the Irish having to travel to Dayton or Columbus least year or the Griffins going to North Canton and beyond is altogether more favorable.

Hope it happens soon.

That is the most asinine statement I've ever heard in my life and I'm sorry to hijack you guys's thread but that is the biggest load of BS I've ever heard in my entire life. You my friend should feel ashamed for even saying that 😂😂😂 it doesn't matter what week the game is played if you better just beat them it doesn't look good on St V's part considering when Massillon started to beat the Irish the game is dropped then when Hoban started to beat the Irish the game you noticed the common denominator????

Hoban is whole different situation. You guys are too egotistical since it took your city 10 centuries to even get 1 REAL state title. But I don't care about your ego to know that we had your number.

You are a clown. You said, “we have your number.” What are you drinking?

And the only reason you wanted to play us week 9 is because any week OTHER than week 9 (since 72) your record is abysmal. We've played twice in week 1, 3 times in week 6, twice in week 7 and 4 times in week 8 and St. V is 1-10 in those 11 games. Also....you pick and choose your week 9 games....Massillon also played St. V 7 times in the 90's in the week 9 spot and St. V is 1-6 in those games.

So, in summary....in games other than the ones you cherry picked, St. V is 2-16 against the Tigers. Swing and a miss.

I’m concerned not because of his possible ability but because of our Offensive Line
Over the past several years, the issue with the offensive line hasn't been one of size or talent, but more of commitment. That is something that Cistone seemed to have been making great strides in during his tenure. I hope this trend continues. I haven't heard anything, good, bad or indifferent, about the off-season program. Until I hear otherwise, I'll stay positive and presume that no news is good news.

Ok well talking to a source who said they looking pretty decent but they are young and it’s going to take time to build this program back up
