Summer Water Polo Events

We're fully underway with summer polo - and it's going to be quite a packed summer of events. Moose boys and girls had several tournaments in the spring and we resume summer tournaments this weekend with a girls team headed to Chicago.

Jose Cerda Memorial Tournament is July 12-13 at Montgomery Swim & Tennis Club for boys and University of Cincinnati for girls. As it stands we are looking to host 12+ boys teams from all over the Midwest & 8+ girls teams from all around the Midwest. It's free so come out and watch.

Boys Moose is competing in the AWP National State Challenge - July 18-21 in Philly. We opted to not do the Junior Olympic route this year with them and wanted to explore the NSC to see what it's all about. But it should feature some of the best teams in the east. Very excited about it.

Girls Moose qualified for Junior Olympics top division in both 18&U and 16&U. Very excited to have a 16's team headed to Cali to represent Ohio. It's also the first ever 16&U team to do so! Future is bright for Ohio polo! JO's is July 31-Aug 3.

Club season should bring us about 30 games per gender this year (about the same as last year). But the amazing part is not just the amount of games we're getting - but the number of kids playing. We're around 130 kids in the program with ages from 12 and up.

Here's a better stat ... 20 different schools represented. And only 7 of them are from the polo playing schools (mas, mil, pri, syc, st x, UA, UA). Which means there are a ton of non polo schools that are being exposed to polo. Huge. If we only had more pool time and more coaches ...

There's a summer update for ya.

What's the high school water polo season look like in 2014? Are there any new teams? Will the Dayton teams participate in the post season? If so, does that shift the regional line ups? Are X & SC the favorites this year based upon last years finishes? Who has the most coming back?

I think this weekends JCMT will provide a lot of insight into what this high school could look like.

New teams? If there are, I don't know about it.

Dayton teams are inching closer to post season play. I think this is the year it happens.

Favorites? Would really need to look over the rosters for returning players. Will try to put together a list for returning players.

Just wrapped up the 4th annual Jose Cerda Memorial Tournament

Boys results: moosewaterpolo.aquanite.com/boys-leader-board/
Girls results: http://moosewaterpolo.aquanite.com/girls-leader-board/

Windy City (IL) played Tiger (PA) in finals on the boys with Tiger taking the title.
NIPC (IL) played Moose in the girls finals with Moose winning it.

Amazing weekend with teams from all over the Midwest attending.

Next up: boys head to philly for the national state challenge this coming weekend.
Girls head to cali for Junior Olympics the 27th-8/4.

Then high school season!

8-4 X.

Not sure if it was played indoors or outdoors. A storm hit during the last little bit of the tournament and had to be moved from Montgomery Swim & Tennis Club to Sycamore. (8 lanes all deep - to 6 lanes shallow deep).

Can't really comment more on the boys games either as I was at UC all weekend. Their twitter feeds might have some insight on how games went though.

Would love to see who has what coming back. SC lost their 2 first team all staters & a second teamer, but have Aslaner back for his senior year. He was 2nd team all state in 2012. They also were playing some sophomores and a freshman at the end of the year. Interested to see what others have back. I think X lost their big gun, but they have numbers and some of their better swimmers are playing. UA lost Trace & Baas who were a lot of their offense. StF generally starts slow and comes on strong at the end of the season. Not sure what Thomas has or the teams in the south. Interested in an analysis mukisa. Time to start gearing up for the season.

In Cali for JO's right now. Girls have been scrimmaging teams since Sunday (Marin, Lamorinda, 680, and Greenwich - some amazing teams!!)

Games start today. 18's play Rose Bowl first. 16's get Diablo. Both are top 10 teams. After that, the games should become more competitive. We'll be posting results on twitter - @moosewp and USAWP will post as well.

https://www.dbwebwhim.net/cgi-bin/start.cgi/NJO_2014/2014_njo_divselect.htm - this will be real time results.

Both 16 & 18 teams are in Championship division.

Done Sunday.

Then HS season gets underway. ill have some time to post updated rosters shortly there after. But since I'm donning the whites this year will offer little analysis.

Wish us luck! We're off to our first game in an hour!

SC heavily favored

Saint Charles should be heavily favored. Aslanar was their best player two years ago and is back. They have lost Hoffman, but return a lot from their state championship team. Ward and Sugar will be solid contributors.

Agree w scwat, SC is the favorite followed closely by Mason, remember they were missing their second best player at the end and return a lot, I'd say UA, X, SF, and TW are also in the discussion.

For those in the Columbus area, a new team is starting this year. The Columbus Hawks will begin JV play this season. Membership on the team is open to any high school student who attends a school that doesn't offer water polo. The plan is to have a boys and girls team. They are scheduled to play in the Ohio Cup, St. Charles Novice tournament; and JV Boys Invite & JV Girls Invite in Toledo. Information is available at the Columbus Water Polo website: http://www.eteamz.com/columbuswaterpolo/. Click on handouts.
