St. Edward Basketball 22/23

(18-1) St. Edward 61
(18-3) Brecksville 52
Great game, great atmosphere. There was about a 2 minute stretch in 4th where the Eagles press and pressure caused a series of Brecksville turnovers and Eagle buckets that swung the game in favor of good guys. Great 3pt shooting from Lavelle, Scarpetti, and Coleman. Great defense from just about everyone. Coleman, Sullivan, and Grant all took turns on Brecksville star Luke Skaljac. Great player who really had to work for his points. Free throw shooting continues to be an issue, for about 17th straight year

The game was tied at 50-50 with 4 minutes left, but the Eagles closed out the game with an 11-2 run.

St. Edward’s six losses last season were to DeMatha (MD), Reynoldsburg, St. Vincent-St. Mary, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Richmond Heights and Pickerington Central (in the state semi-finals). This season, the Eagles:
  • Will not play DeMatha.
  • Could possibly meet Pick Central, but only in the state final game.
  • Have avenged three of the remaining four losses by beating Reynoldsburg, St. Vincent-St. Mary and Brecksville-Broadview Heights.
  • Will meet Richmond Heights on Friday and have a chance to make it a perfect four for four.

Down by seven points with 1:40 left in the game, there was no quit in the Eagles. Thanks to a smothering full-court press, they came roaring back with an 8-0 run to take a one-point lead with 37.8 seconds remaining. Richmond Heights didn’t break under the pressure, however, finishing strong to seal the deal. Wow, what a thrilling finish – talk about a tournament atmosphere!

No shame losing to the best team.in Ohio.

Great game last night in the Eagle's Nest. Both teams played hard and it went down to the wire. I was impressed with Richmond Hts. ability to run the floor and their shooting was lights out. Number 22 could take the ball to the hoop and presented defensive problems for the Eagles. Lot's of fun to watch and a great basketball game. No quit in the Eagles as they kept coming back and took the lead late in the game.

I was wondering same thing , broadcaster showed up late game, filming was bouncy as well. But ty st Ed’s for having a televised game. Awesome
So the trolls can stop complaining. If you looked on social media there were technical issues mentioned. The boxcast device shorted out and work was being done to get the game on. While it did come on late it was aired. The normal camera person a student was using an iPad by hand. He took it upon himself to call the 4th quarter to give folks something. So NO the crew did not have covid. If you don't know the business things like this happens all the time. Sometime a broadcast goes off well. Sometimes it doesn't. But at least it did air.

Tuesday game with Hoban should be very good. Hoban playing really well now. Imo the winner of this wins the regional final.

St. Edward led Medina by 18 points with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, 44-26. With five minutes left in the game, the Bees pulled to within one point, 51-50. So, over a six-minute stretch, the Eagles were outscored 24-7. Yes, they ended up hanging on for the win. The experience of narrowly surviving the onslaught, however, offers them a lesson about the dangers of complacency when sitting on a big lead.

Hats off to the Battling Bees, who lived up to their nickname. They never quit, stepping up their defensive intensity big-time during their 3rd/4th quarter run.
