Senate Reverses Protection of Planned Parenthood Funding

Senate voted to reverse an Obama admin rule on protecting Planned Parenthood's share of Federal money for family planning organizations.

The Obama administration finalized the rule just a few weeks before President Donald Trump was inaugurated. It would bar states from denying federal family planning funds to organizations like Planned Parenthood that also perform abortions.

The rule said that a state cannot deny funding to clinics for reasons unrelated to their ability to provide basic family planning services. Although abortion is a legal medical procedure, federal dollars cannot be used to pay for it, except in restricted circumstances.

Predictable Democrat response is that Republicans want women to die in the streets in as big of droves as possible.

I wish they had the stones to call it what it is: Abortion. Women's Healthcare is nothing but an overused euphemism

It is solely because they perform abortions that their Federal funding can be withheld. While abortion is legal, it cannot be paid for through Federal funding. If they were only providing women's health services such as Pap smears, breast exams, etc this wouldn't be an issue. Any primary care provider or free clinic will also provide those services without performing abortions.

I've never understood why Planned Parenthood continued to receive money after Obamascam was passed. There are hospitals and clinics and doctors on every street corner now. Is PP really needed anymore or more importantly is it needed for all of those other medical services anymore. Why not let them compete for funding like any other medical services company?

Pretty unfortunate that Republicans are spending the majority of their time on social issues (where they suck the most), and not on fiscal issues (where they are better)

Agreed. One could spin PP into somewhat of a "fiscal issue," but it's a dumb hill to die on either way.

Will it matter after Gorsuch is spproved and Ruth retires and is replaced in the Next few years.

Any social battle is a no win scenario in this country. It's where everyone is the most divided.
