OCC Challenge

OCC Challenge happened on Tuesday. I heard that next year all the teams will be involved.

All matches were best 2/3.

Results:

Westerville Central defeated Upper Arlington 2-0
Dublin Coffman defeated Olentangy 2-1
Hilliard Davidson defeated Olentangy Liberty 2-1
Pickerington North defeated Worthington Kilbourne 2-0
Hilliard Darby defeated Mt. Vernon 2-1
Hilliard Bradley defeated Dublin Jerome 2-0

Side note. I was able to witness IMO the two best setters in the state for years to come. Ian Cowen and Dejon Clark. Both are sophmores and are able to lead their teams respectively. Both boy's set with such poise. It will be great to watch them progress over the next two years. Both are D1 caliber players at the next level.

What high school/club teams do they play for? Any idea on their height as well? Not saying it can't be done, but very few players out of Ohio make it to play D1 volleyball. This is particularly true for setters as the only ones have been Steven Kehoe, Derek Kues, Carter Cassell, and now Thane Fanfulik.

Out of the first three, Steven was the only one to start as a setter for his college team (Ohio State), and the jury is still out on Fanfulik who may be redshirting at Quincy this year?

Side note, when I was checking out Quincy stats, Jarrod Kelso, last years POY is tearing it up as a middle for Quincy, 4th on the team in kills as a true freshman!

They both play for Vanguard. Both solid prospects, but as you mentioned, the opportunities are so few...
Cowan is 6-4, Clark 6-2 (give or take an inch).
Both very athletic, Clark has better hands, but Cowan is more physical.
Will be fun to watch them develop and battle with each other.

Fanfulik actually broke his hand this year, not sure if they redshirt him or not. Bad luck for him. I know the setter from Pick North, one you were talking about plays for the Vanguard 17, he also hits a little too, not a bad player all around with great hands.

If you want to get technical, Kues never set it college and Thane and Carter both went D2, respectivally. Also Mike Randolph set for Division 1 IPFW as a S back in 2005
