Rep. Edwards suggests the government should take over the OHSAA

Don't these clowns have better things to do? Is the state in such great shape that the legislators can try to take over hs sports? Do your jobs, buffoons.

Sadly the voters only vote for clowns from two parties that have a history of sucking.
True. When it comes down to it, the voters are to blame. They just vote by the letter after the name ( R or D). But, the clowns that are in office are, presumably, supposed to do what the fools put them in office to do, not just grandstand with stuff like this, and fundraise. Leave that to the grifters on the national level.

The legislature would not be doing this if they were not hearing complaints from their constituents. OHSAA's excuse for 15.00 dollar tix is laughable don't want to have $1.00 bills in the change box ok if that is true make the cash tix. 10.00 dollars.

It sounds like Rep Edwards is advocating for himself for the job to run high school athletics in Ohio.

This. Don't our state politicians have something more important to worry about than the cost to attend HS athletic events?
The chief proponent: Rep. Jay Edwards (R-Nelsonville)

Absolutely nothing needs tending in Athens County. Just ask Joe Burrow.

Nelsonville is a city in northwestern Athens County, Ohio, United States, located about 60 miles southeast of Columbus. The population was 5,373 at the 2020 census

Here's the reason for the sudden interest in the takeover: 7 Nelsonville-York (8-3) at 2 West Jefferson (10-1) Second round.

He's doing this to get votes from the football fans.

Hey, Rep Edwards, why don’t you work on fixing school funding, which has been unconstitutional since the 1900s, restoring the faith of the voters after the bribery scandals, and making life for Ohioans better rather than this grandstanding.

if any of us were told by a judge to do something and ignored those orders, we would be in jail.

“The OHSAA charges too much!”

“ok fixed it! Now tickets are cheaper, but your tax dollars pay for the entire organization to function”

brilliant.

A big fat NO to this.

I don't want this to become California with all their sliced-up state championships. Every congressperson in Ohio is going to be lobbying for their state championship in whatever sport they think they have been denied. I'm not happy with the direction of HS sports but this would send it off the cliff.

If the government takes over, the Yappi Ohio High School Athletic Association will be born the same day...

What do you mean by that?

But you are right. He represents one of the more economically disadvantaged areas in this entire state, yet he is more concerned with the cost of attending a HS football game instead of things like, you know... jobs, access to affordable housing, the ability to put food on the table, and drug use. Things that REALLY matter in the grand scheme of things.

Keep up the good work Rep Edwards glad somebody is looking out for the middle class and people on fixed incomes.

That's what he would have you believe. He's hoping those middle class and people on fixed incomes will contribute to his re-election campaign..... and a lot more than $15. Doesn't anyone think that he would care if Nelsonville were not in the playoffs? Opportunism at its finest.

Edwards represents an area that still cares about high school sports and one where $15 tickets (and really, $12 tickets) present a financial hardship. Threatening a state takeover is a bridge too far (and probably a bluff) but I'm sure he's heard a lot from his constituents.
Surprisingly astute take.

Some states do have their governing body as an actual government office. Now talks are in the works to do the same to the OHSAA.

So What No GIF

If they want to take something over because the prices are too high … how about taking over supermarkets … I believe that would help the middle class more than cost of football games
