It's still very early but this season is averaging the most points per game since the 1970-71 season.

The top 10 seasons for scoring are from 1959 to 1971. This season is ranked 11th right now. Teams are averaging 6 more points per game this year than last year.

So what is the reason for the scoring explosion?
 
 
Nobody WANTS to play defense. You can't touch guys on offense. And most teams jack up alot of 3 pointers.

I've seen that a bunch of times this year already. It's frustrating to watch because it ruins the flow of the game and encourages defensive players to just let the offensive player go. The NBA is becoming a little bit like a long range game of H-O-R-S-E.
