Playoff attendance

Reasons beyond my control kept me home last night.
I did watch the Dayton Northridge at Massie game and was able to see the visitors side really clear and though it is very small it was maybe 60% full (Estimated). How was the attendance at other games?

Honestly, unless you were a parent why would you subject Yourself to these type of games.
Because you know your boys, who are in your school-community, can use all the support they can get — with some being their last game — no matter how apparent the outcome was going to be beforehand.

I was at Holy Name-Bay and it was easily the most sparse crowd all year that I had seen at any of the dozen or so games I've attended. I'm pretty sure Bay did not have any students there and probably 200 on their side (not counting their large band for a D3 school). Holy Name's side may have been 1,000, but 100 of that was probably Bay band parents (great band BTW) most who immediately left as soon as they got done playing at halftime.

As has been proposed last year and this, maybe breaking the region into smaller sections first round and take the compromise the high seeds might be forced into more competitive games. This was a recipe for long travel times in colder weather for games with only rare exception just sentimental purpose.

Mostly I'm in favor of let 9-16 opt out late and schedule an 11th game or not. Kids should not be forced into games with no meaning to them.

From your post, I imagine you got a lot of sprinkles.

The kids have played their season. The larger organization is forcing the extra game, not the coach. Is it sprinkles to give them an option to select a local game in which they actually get to compete? A game that might have some meaning? Complete a game that maybe was canceled because of covid? Then give the higher team the bye that has already been proposed?

Yes, I understand choices and decision making to people like you are a little challenging. The tougher crowd can handle them. Enjoy your sprinkles Annie.

As long time Mogadore fan I was utterly shocked by the low attendance at the game with Central Catholic. Never have seen so many empty areas of our home side and Central Catholic was not a whole lot better. I'm guessing maybe 500-600 . Unbelievable! Thanks OHSAA you sure know how to rake in the $$$ and lose fans!

I don't understand these kind of excuses, I really don't, it's silly....you're....in essence, telling the kids that either, A) "you have no chance so why should I bother?".... ("even though I supported you in games I thought you could win AND....when the weather didn't make me chilly willy.") Or B) "you're going to win easy so you don't need our support....I'll be back when I feel the games are worthy of my attention." Older fans who may be wary of covid or pneumonia have an easy out. If you're a casual fan (regardless of age) who attends games occasionally....thats one thing but if you're an actual "fan"....and you let matchups, or weather deter you....now obviously there are variable. If you have kids and don't want to take them out in weather, prior engagements out of your control, emergencies....etc, that's one thing.

No gate sales. The rain stopped a hour before kickoff.
Then cost more on game day . To watch a lopsided game.
OHSAA power grab.
Prices goes up 3 hrs prior...

Attendance was ok. Cold. Rain. Travel. OSU on tv, ticket prices kept people away. Hell, some even stay away believing their team will roll easily.

Attendance was what I expected..maybe a little higher from the visiting team than expected

Massillon game it was only Massillon fans. I do not think the whole independence team came.
When independence offense was on the field . I counted 15 players on the sideline. & looked like only one coach.
I just do not agree with the way Ohass runs things.

I don’t really blame the OHSAA. Saturday was wet at a lot of places, plus the OSU game was on. Never mind the fact that interest in high school football is about 5% of what it was 20-30 years ago.

1999 they went to 8 teams. When it was 4/region less teams were getting in year after year so when ya made the playoffs it was must see even in round 1.

That's life for most inner-city football programs. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was Independence's entire team. Coaching staffs generally aren't very big either.

I can guarantee the weather forecast, at least on Friday, was the major driver on attendance. All week they were calling for rain all day on Friday. The fact the rain moved out in the afternoon was irrelevant, most people don’t keep up to date on hour by hour weather. On Saturday weather plus osu certainly was a major factor, a big osu game keeps attendance low (hence why D1 doesn’t play on Saturday anymore).

As for online tickets, better get used to it because it’s not going back. More and more schools are going to online only during the regular season, I know in the Youngstown area probably about 50% of the schools did online sales and it’s only going to grow. No more having to deal with cash or physical tickets, just scan people in

The people who like the online format the most are the ticket managers. They don't have to fill out financial reports on game night or chase down someone from the visiting school to give them money for their school's presale. They also don't have to round up cash from multiple ticket booths and transport it to the school office or wherever they store the money after it has all been collected. Not having to round up and pay workers to sell paper tickets at the window is a bonus. My school just posts signs on the ticket window and outside the gate with the QR code and URL to purchase their tickets right there.

I understand it is inconvenient for a number of people, and I'm not big on getting nickled and dimed by processing fees, but you are right that online ticketing will eventually become the rule rather than an exception.
