Pirates Cove XI (2016)

Taillon had another really good outing yesterday:

7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 7 Ks, 2 BB, 1.54 ERA

If he keeps his current form through May there's no doubt he'll be brought up in June.

let's just call it now:

Cubs win NL Central by double digit games. maybe between 15 and 20.

here's to hoping for a WC, boys.

It was inevitable from the time Epstein was brought in that they'd beat the Pirates to elite status. They made the smart personnel and draft decisions, plus have money to throw around. The Pirates just have to sit tight for their prospects and work with the bargain bin in FA.

The Cubs are really good. I can see them being like the Cardinals were last year; the Bucs could win 98 and finish 2nd again. No point really worrying about it.

I will say they need to make the WC a best of 3. The one-off is not the way to do it in baseball.

Speaking of prospects, Taillon continued his excellent run of form last night.

His ERA is down to 1.19, he's averaging over 5 Ks per start, he's gone 7 the last two games, and his WHIP is around .760. No doubt he'll be up in June at this rate.

I agree WC is probably the best they can do. They play the Cubs like they are intimidated by them. Pitching has got to get better from top to bottom. Cole hasn't pitched like an ace since last July.

Pirates are slowly creeping back as the Cubs stumble a bit lately. 5.0 games out this morning were 9.5 not long ago. If they can get the bullpen straight (and learn how to not be bullied by the Cubs) could be an interesting Summer.

Yu Darvish looked like he hadn't missed a day. Talk about bad luck running into that buzzsaw.

I think Liriano needs a day off. He hasn't looked right this season.

Its still early. Get healthy and Bucs might have a shot at the wildcard. Not counting on it however.

Taillon looked good tonight. A welcomed sight after Liriano and Niese the last two games. Those two are God awful right now.

Chicago police investigate [Jung-ho Kang] in sexual assault claim

...Kang, 29, has not been charged with a crime. His status with the team was unchanged.

According to police, the Chicago woman met Kang through Bumble, a location-based dating app that allows only women to initiate conversations. Kang invited the woman to his Magnificent Mile hotel room on June 17, hours after the Pirates had lost a day game to the Cubs.

The woman told investigators she arrived at Kang's room at the Westin Hotel around 10 p.m. and he served her an alcoholic drink, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. She said she blacked out about 15 to 20 minutes later, then drifted in and out of consciousness as he sexually assaulted her.

She told police she did not fully awaken until she was in a taxi and on her way home, according to Guglielmi.

The 23-year-old woman, who is not being identified because she is an alleged victim of a sex crime, went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital to have a rape kit done on June 19, Guglielmi said. She filed a formal complaint with police 10 days later, sources said.

The league released a statement saying it recently learned of the allegation...

****. This does not look good.

Its an allegation at this point. More often than not nothing comes of it. But if he did something let the cards fall where they may....looking forward to seeing Glasnow pitch. I'm concerned about his walk ratio...Bucs walk enough as it is. Didn't realize he was 6"8.

Not sure what to expect from Glasnow. He's been dominant in AAA from an ERA standpoint, but he walks a lot of guys and frequently gets into deep counts. If he manages to go 5 full innings I'd consider that a good debut for him.

So it looks like Andrew McCutchen is about to be traded to Washington for a couple of top prospects. Can't say I blame them.
