Cases of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, appear to be prevalent among Big Ten athletes, said Penn State's director of athletic medicine, impacting roughly one-third of all athletes who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Wayne Sebastianelli, who is also the team doctor for Penn State football, said Monday during a meeting of the State College Area School District board of directors that cardiac scans of Big Ten athletes who contracted COVID-19 showed "30 to roughly 35 percent of their heart muscles" indicated symptoms of myocarditis.

The first thing that sticks out is "30 to 35%". I would like someone reporting this information to be more specific. To make this announcement, he must have the data.

Second thing, what is the percentage of athletes that have myocarditis that did not test positive for Covid? How many of these athletes have been kept out of sports this year? How many have been kept out of sports in the past?

If this is only a small percentage of athletes and it is a real issue for playing sports, simply keep these kids out of sports until a doctor authorizes them to re-enter. If the doctor is uncomfortable with them ever playing again, keep them out indefinitely.

Uh, you are asking all the questions that came to my mind.

Generally, within a few days of something like this, more clarity comes to the story.
 
If this is true...present facta to the players. They are adults,and can make adult decisions
 
I still see this narrative being pushed.
myocarditis is just more panic porn.

Just like the other day the news tried to scare parents with CV-19 causes type 1 diabetes.

ANY virus can cause it.. It is not the virus it is the body’s response to the virus that attacks the body’s cells that produce insulin. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease.

Nothing else should be expected from the purveyors of panic.
 
The Big 12 went to a specialist at the Mayo Clinic, and he told them that it is highly unlikely that these athletes would get it or be harmed by it. That is why they are playing. The BIG needs to talk to people in their own backyard.
