#PACtion™ 2025

I read PD & ABJ for a long time. When the content started to get really . . . we'll call it "skimpy" I just shrugged it off. When they wanted me to start paying for that content it was over. Listened to ESPN 850 for awhile but that usually only lasted 5-10 minutes before turning the dial and asking myself "why do I bother?"

Listen to a few NFL podcasts now and it cracks me up about how nearsighted the local folks are.

But, they did give us this gem which should never be forgotten . . .

I had Sirius Radio years ago. Listening to Pat Kirwan, Tim Ryan, Jim Miller in the 2005-2012 range really opened my mind up to how crappy the local coverage was. I haven't looked back since.

Is Aaron Goldhammer still on ESPN Radio? That guy is a clown.

Yes he is.....

And you're listening to former Congressman Tim Ryan? 😂

He opines about the NFL? Really?

I read on X the other day Tim's against us taxpayers paying for the new Haslam Mega Truck Stop & Football Field in Brook Park and I thought "wow he gained courage being out of office."

I know it's not really that Tim Ryan but I couldn't resist.

Re: Tony Jizzo. Alcohol's a helluva drug. I hated his goff takes....him and Jimmy Hanlin acting like they're Jack Nicklaus. Come on.

When Chef Michael Symon was on with Jizzo... 🤮

Re: The PD. The same publisher who ran the Columbus Dispatch into the ground now runs the PD.

PD politics...I'd rather read what Barry Larkin thinks about the body politic instead of Brent Larkin. But I can't hammer the Dems too hard. The Dems of 20-30 years ago are where I'm at now.

Where did they go? The Republican views of today are what you heard in the Massillon bars 20-30 years ago from most Dems.

Raylan, what NFL podcasts do you enjoy?

I really miss those days of NFL films. The music choices and brief narration of the player/situation just seemed perfect. I watched NFL Crunchtime most every day during summer break from school.
Where can one watch those old films. Do you remember the episode of 'the magic bean'? I believe that's what it was called.

These are tentative numbers with final counts and numbers due to be published on April 25th.

Some notes:
  • We are in the second year of using the 2023 EMIS Males number. So the changes to the 2025 Football Tournament Enrollment values are 100% impacted by changes to the 2024-25 Competitive Balance value
  • Northwest just 4 away from being bumped into Division III. Competitive balance went from 0 last year to 4 this year. If the final CB number ticks upward, they could be facing a D3 future. And depending on the growth of those Ryan Homes developments, even if they avoid the bump up this year, a D3 existence could be on the horizon a year from now
  • Orrville and Canton South comfortably D4
  • Coventry is also comfortably D4, but interestingly has a CB value of 25. Surprising to see the Comets as a transfer destination.
  • Manchester, Fairless and Triway all still D5
  • Tuslaw slated to bump up to D5. The Mustangs CB number of 8, bumps the Bellstores Field crew above the 2025 Football Tournament Enrollment value by a single point. Tuslaw's value is 158 (150 + 8 CB), whereas the cutoff is 157.
And yes, since it was posted above, the CVCA CB value is 61. No surprise since you get dinged for CB for every new ninth grader that didn't start out as a 7th grade student at the same school. The CVCA EMIS number (259) is just four students below the D3 cutoff anyway (263), and once the new EMIS numbers come out a year from now, with the growth at CVCA, the school will be solidly in D3, reinforcing again that it was time to move on.
Final numbers are out. No surprises from the Tentative numbers.
  • Northwest right near the Top of D4 (Region 4-13). Actually moved down (again) to D4. Their EMIS number would have them in D3 without being jumped by other schools due to Competitive Balance
  • Coventry (Region 4-13), Orrville (4-14) and Canton South (4-15) also in D4 - no changes to division or regions from a year ago
  • Manchester (Region 5-17), Fairless (5-17) and Triway (5-18) remain in the same divisions and regions as a year ago
  • Tuslaw move up from D6 to D5 and will compete in Region 5-17

Saw that Coventry has a 7th grader who just ran an 11.37 100m. That time will usually win high school conference meets. Absolutely blazing for a 12/13 year old. Does the future look bright for Coventry athletics? Assuming Hoban doesn't snatch him up.
1. That's CRAZY fast for middle school.
2. I actually saw Hoban track at the West Holmes invite a few weeks ago. It was an odd place for them (should have been named "Holmes Co + IVC Invitational") and they were . . . not good. Asked one of the Hoban fans how many football players they had running and they couldn't think of 1. "Hoban doesn't care about track."
3. While it probably won't be Hoban (unless he also plays football), someone will VERY much likely grab him.

The only private school I know of who takes track seriously is CVCA. My assumption with Hoban is that he plays football.

The Slaw moved up because the word's getting out about Kenyon Creek and the Sippo "Cash" Reserves suburban enclaves. They're hot 🔥 and people want The Slaw lifestyle.
