Division 1 Central District 3

#22 Walnut Ridge (14-7): 59
#10 Gahanna Lincoln (13-9): 40

Gahanna was ranked #48 in MaxPreps statewide rankings. (All divisions)

Division 1 Southwest District 1

#4 Goshen (20-2): 54
#11 Little Miami (16-7): 55

F/OT
An upset in seed number only. Nobody in SWO was surprised by this. Very good game though. Little Miami pulled out another tight game against Anderson in the next round. They are rewarded with Moeller next.

Oak Hills (#17) beat Aiken (#6).

Middletown (#9) beat Western Hills (#8).

Both were competitive games and neither one were overly upsets as the new RPI definitely overseeded the two CMAC teams.

I included it because both were decently high seeds, and MaxPreps had Goshen ranked around 20-25 spots ahead of Little Miami. Usually, if a team with a record like Goshen is in the mid 80's, they're usually not as good as the record indicates.

We will have plenty of matchups today as All Northeast Division 1 Districts (1-6) will be playing their Sectional Finals tonight! The lone exception is #21 Elyria and #32 Stow-Munroe Falls that was played yesterday, in which Elyria won 53-44.

Huge win for very young program and a big turnaround from the year before. New D1 schools usually struggle to establish a footprint; nice step forward for 0 Berlin.

There will obviously be a new Central Regional champion this year. Who would you say is the favorite at this point? Olentangy Orange? Delaware Hayes? Hilliard Bradley?

I was there. Did not seem like an 'upset' other than reputation. Berlin had the two best players on the court. I don't see them going much further though.

Makes you wonder who did a better job of picking seeds, RPI or the Coaches?
For what it’s worth, 21 of the top 24 seeds are where they should be (district semis), so the seedings overall haven’t been bad. There were way more upsets last year in the first two rounds.

Edit: I’m talking specifically about NE D1

Actually 2 years ago was the one with all the upsets early on.

If I’m correct in NEO D1 there are 76 teams. It’s basically impossible to ask anybody to accurately rank 1-76. If they were to shrink it back to just ranking your district then it would make sense.

While it’s not big boy basketball, D4 Central District has two brackets and Sectionals were played without a single lower seed winning. As much as there has been disgust at the new MaxPreps formula, it’s been all chalk in at least one district so far.

D4 NEO Section 3. Elyria Open Door (12-10) seeded 19th. Beat in the 1st round 7th seeded New Middletown Springfield (16-6) 52-38
2nd round they beat 13th seeded Lowellville ( 14-8) 56-45
