Ohio State Football 2023

Ryan Day does need to do some soul searching about the direction of the program:

Does his pro style QB philosophy fit in CFB where success seems governed by a dual threat QB.

Strength and conditioning.

Special teams.
Ryan Day is an NFL OC. He is an excellent offensive mind, no doubt. In the NFL he can implement his offense without having to really coach in the sense that college coaches do.

Michigan has beaten OSU over the last three years on little things. Their special teams are great, they do not turn the ball over, and they are VERY sound and physical on D. Jesse Minter is an excellent DC (as was McDonald before him). OSU got slightly better this year on D but Knowles cannot change his stripes. Missed tackles, out of position, read-react up front. OSU cannot get off the field on 3rd and 4th and short. At the end of the game when they needed a stop they stunk. Ryan Day will never be an elite college HC because he lacks the discipline to implement all of the little things that you need in order to be great. Tressel and Meyer "got it," Day not so much.

One thing that has gone completely unspoken about is who the best player was in this game. It was Blake Corum. The guy continued to grind out runs and bounce runs that weren’t initially there. I never would have thought Treveyon would have got outplayed by Corum but he did and in a wide margin. Treveyon is great as long as he has somewhere to run. He is not a back that is going to be patient or create running lanes on his own or even run with power.

Corum showed what being a complete back can provide for a football team.
Corum had 88 yds. on 22 carries, and he is not the pass receiver out of the backfield Henderson is. The one area where TTUN is better than OSU is the o line good olines make for good running game and also if the QB has time to throw makes for better QB play. The line for OSU was the weak link in the offense today and all year. Henderson would have made Styles miss in the open field as well. Styles was in over his head today as was Knowles he was completely out coached in the 2nd half.

So who do we want to play in the bowl game? Inital thought was Louisville but since they lost today in a big upset that matchup is no longer exciting. Maybe FSU loses tonight and OSU can play them in the Orange bowl.
Well, that's notna certainty yet based on how UW is playing and FSU qb issue.

But, assuming we don't make it in, I want now part of a game vs louisville or Tulane. If we have to, give me Bama in a cotton bowl.or something

My wife asked with about a minute and a half left what I thought would happen. I told her Michigan would kick the field goal and the Buckeyes would take it down the field enough to give us a glimmer of hope then throw an interception.

I guess it's my fault.
You shouldn't suffer alone.

Final:

scUM 30
tOSU 31

Well, Henderson really didn’t do much as a receiver today so it doesn’t really matter. Corum was better today in the biggest of games and the biggest of games are the only ones that matter honestly.

I do agree on Knowles. Where was the run blitzing? Why was Mike Hall playing so much? Why does Tommy Eichenberg continue to be heralded as some great LB when all he does is miss tackles and get burnt in coverage in big games? Eichenberg is borderline Tuf Borland type bad

I agree with most what you have to say except for what is in bold. Have to remember Day is only in his 5th year at OSU, Meyer and Tressel both got to start at "smaller" programs before becoming HC at OSU. Day will never accept an OC job in the NFL (pay cut) if Day would want, he could have the A&M job tomorrow.

None of that changes the fact that Ryan Day is probably best suited to be an NFL offensive coordinator, which is what I took his point to be.

He wasn’t making predictions.

Bs. This is the exact thing OSU fans have been saying since the ‘21 game. Again, he didn’t want to call out the fans, so he took on an easy target.
That’s just stupid. His team got called out on national television and he decided to respond. I’m sure it was on their behalf.

I think Knowles simply was hesitant to blitz or use stunts simply because of the way UM burned him last year. UM having a QB capable and willing to run will keep a defense honest.

I disagree. Mediocre? Being in the 12 team CFP yearly wouldn't be mediocre. Mediocre is PSU or what UM will be going forward
PSU, yes. And maybe Michigan becomes mediocre if Harbaugh leaves. If he doesn’t, I think OSU battles PSU for second fiddle in the Big Ten, which on a nation level is mediocre. Not to mention, the expansion teams in the Big 10 don’t make things any easier.

They had the secondary this season to run a defense like that though. Last season they didn’t. I would used the same exact gameplan as last season. Since we didn’t we did not really get to put our good DBs to use in this game because Michigan was able to dink and dunk with their tight ends down the field against the OSU LBs

Be careful what you wish for. You have to figure OSU's draft eligible players would elect to sit out. Harrison, Henderson, Tuimoloau, Egbuka, Proctor, Burke, etc. State has a lot young talent looking to step up, but those would be hard to replace in 5 weeks.

And we pay for a special teams coach. They don’t even attempt to block kicks or punts. Most teams do not pay for a separate coach.
