NIL already getting out of hand

Really, this kid was set to receive 13 million in NIL money?

Why don't we just skip college football all together. There's no sense playing in college to get to the pros if you are gonna make pro money in college. NFL, go make your money, just create a minor league development system where players, after 2-3 years, then join their team's practice squad heading into pre-season where they have a chance to make the roster, be sent back to the practice squad, or be cut. Put minor league teams in random locations like Columbus, Austin, Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Clemson, Ann Arbor....you know places where pro football doesn't exist. All of sudden, the NFL Minor Leagues is born. Call it something catchy, like the NFL Collegiate Athletic Association, that's NCAA for short.

EXCEPT, that as far as I know, NOBODY receives NIL up front at UGA, as a recruiting tool! The players are left to their own devices to GETRDONE through outside NIL agents. It makes for a double incentive to perform at a high level. Pay from outside sources for performance, and the incentive to hone their skills for the next level, is what they sign up for. But HERE'S the catch, it takes a special type of player to fit this mold. Many prospective recruits are instant gratification types. UGA doesn't target this type of player, knowingly. They look for the ones who will embrace DEFERRED gratification, for that day when those honed skills give them the opportunity to dress out on a Sunday afternoon. And at this writing, it has potentially worked 28 times in Athens, in the past two seasons and counting.

OH, I almost forgot the punchline. If you have heard of our TE, Brock Bowers. You may have guessed that he has received a rather lucrative NIL deal through those outside sources, during his freshman and sophomore seasons. Yesterday, he announced to Coach Smart, that whatever the substantial sum he has received, will be going to his 84 teammates. I guess that he realizes that he'll get HIS next season, when he goes in the first round of the draft.

Sure.

OK SPARKY, NAME an instance to the contrary? I'M WAITING?:stirthepot:

I'll put it in a language that even YOU may be able to understand. WHY would the best program in America, stoop to trying to bribe a player into signing on the dotted line. When they can merely go to a number of OTHER places to get an equivalent talent, who is willing to pay (in effort) for play. Rather than play for pay? Do you think that the #1 TE in America. was bribed into joining the UGA family? HECK, he was pleading for UGA to give him a serious look see, by sending in his home videos to the staff, of his work ethic during the height of Covid. And THEN, he recently donates his ENTIRE external NIL package to his 84 teammates.

Its not a big deal. Most successful teams have some sort of NIL deal with their players.

Another NIL deal. Even fans can get in on the deal. Maybe you could even donate.

Sorry if it took me so long to respond. I think that you're missing the point about UGA NIL. NOBODY, as far as I know, receives an upfront NIL deal to sign at UGA. ALL of this is handled by a world-famous NIL organization, AFTER they enroll. It is ALL tied to performance. I'm not certain HOW EVERYONE gets an NIL deal. But it's NOT orchestrated by UGA. In FACT, Brock Bowers recently went into Coach Smarts office, and told him that his undisclosed amount of NIL, should be distributed to his 84 teammates. As of late, that amount was said to be on the plus side of ONE MILLION DOLLARS! APPARENTLY, Master Bowers feels as though he MAY get his back, as a 2025 NFL first round draft pick. ;)

As I have reiterated previously, UGA DON'T BUY recruits. They say, rather than give them upfront money. They will give them the opportunity to hone their skills while at UGA, to prepare them for a MUCH bigger payday on Sundays. MOST stick it out, SOME DON'T, as was previously articulated by SIX future NFL draft choices on the UGA roster, apparently took NIL deals in the transfer portal.
